Dear lord, I hope not. The guy couldn't even beat out Tank Johnson, who hasn't even had an interview yet.. lol

So what? Romo couldn't even beat out Quincy Carter.

There are several reasons why these guys don't make it at first or why they don't catch on.

This guy is prolly naturally stronger than every single player in the draft. It takes a while for a lot of of these guys to develop the techniques necessary to succeed in this league or the work ethic or whatever.

I made a thread about this on the ranch about a month ago and from what I saw from this guy in the preseason tapes, I had no doubt he'll be the primary backup to Rat next year.

I know we all have out pets around draft time. And it's hard for people to accept that we might not be taking a NT. But in all reality, it'll be hard for any rookie NTs not taken in the first round to have the impact the Siavii could possibly have for us.

As to the reasons why he was cut? Legal issues and injuries came before raw ability

If not, one thing is for certain Dallas would have far less penalties at LT in 2009.

Ummm... by evidence of your first post in this thread, and now this one, I'm starting to think you don't know what a DT is.

A DT is a Defensive Tackle, and has nothing to with the offensive line. That's offense...

Tim Anderson, 6'3 325, former 3rd round pick is also on the Cowboys' roster.

I'm not terribly excited about Junior Siavii. At all. Give me someone in the 3rd and I'm happier.

I'd add that I'm not terribly excited about Wade as a talent evaluator... Siavii will end up on a roster... how's that going Jr?

Maybe I'm not remembering this accurately, but I thought Siavii outplayed Tank, but TJ wasn't getting cut, and Dallas wasn't going to carry 3 NTs.

Well... with the talk of Ratliff moving to DE possibly... who is going to be the starter? I still think Siavii is camp fodder.

You don't have to have the a great bakcup NT when your starter is a pro-bowler. I think fans need to understand that a little more. You don't need 53 guys with pro-bowl talent.

I figure that Siavii can't be worse than Tank was. If you find someone better, you can still add someone. But I think Siavii can do the job, and I think Wade knows it.

Because Ratliff will be moved if we can find a run stopping NT.

Doubt it. A disruptive NT is really really hard to find. I think people totally under estimate and under appreciate just how good Ratliff was last year. He had about as good a year as you can get from a 3-4 NT.

If we get a run stopper the only difference in Ratliff's job is going to be that he is maybe off the field a bit on first down and MAYBE he takes a handful of snaps away from Bowen and Hatcher to make up for it.

Good point and interesting because he actually has some NFL starting experience. Haven't heard much of anything about him. Other than he was a 3rd rounder of the Bills, made some starts and then signed with Atlanta but didn't fit the scheme or something.

Well, if we don't take a NT in the Draft, or we don't take one until the end of the Draft, I guess then we know that Wade may really like Siavii.

And as for Tank beating out Siavii on the active roster.

Here's one possible rationale:

JJ/Wade invested a lot of resources into Tank. JJ with Goodell, using Calvin Hill, counceling, the Cowboys' reputation on being able to salvage projects, etc. Plus, Tank was effective with the Bears prior to getting busted. So, JJ/Wade perhaps figured that it was just a matter of time until Tank "got it".

Remember everyone in TC raving about Tank's first step? He was sooo fast off the line and quick to penetrate into the backfield.

JJ and the staff probably figured that was eventually going to translate in the games at some point.

By mid-season, it still did not happen. But they stuck with Tank regardless. That light was going to come on sooner or later with Tank's ability.

In the end, it was a tease. For whatever reasons, Tank could not get the job done.

This may have been a case of taking a proven player (Tank) over an unproven player, even though in TC the proven player hadn't really shown much. But everyone thought he would sooner or later.

Just a theory . . . .

Bingo...

Or to slightly alter your last sentence, it may have been Jerry refusing to give up on a pet project -- just like with Pacman. In my reading of the tea leaves, I don't think Wade wanted Pacman back after he got suspended.

But back to Junior, if "some people" at Valley Ranch wanted to bring back Junior and boot Tank, it's pretty easy to figure out who wanted whom. If Jerry weren't the one on Tank's side, he wouldn't have stayed. That pretty much leaves the coaches as the ones who wanted Siavii.

Anyway, we had a thread on this a few weeks ago, that maybe Siavii now had grown up and realized what it took to be a professional. It would be a pretty cool story if it worked out. At the least, I bet that at 6-5 and 330, he wouldn't get pushed eight yards into the endzone on a QB sneak.

One thing to consider is that they have mentioned on Talkin Cowboys/Lunchbreak that Jay got beat up last year. That he would cover himself with ice bags all over his body. So they definitely need to find someone to give him some help at the very least or he might not last long.

NFL players get beat up if they run their motors all game. 3-4 DL guys all take double and triple teams -- he's not going to get saved by being at DE.

He's getting beat up much more than other players on the team and yes a whole lot more than if he was at DE. This is something that stood out to guys who see the whole team every day.

He's getting beat up more than he was at DE because he is PLAYING more. Seriously, how can you make the comparison between a guy who played very little at DE - he was a backup that didn't see even half the snaps he gets now.

Any extra getting beat up had to do with not having a good backup so he played more snaps than he should have.
