Isaiah Stanback wants to put off surgery until after season

WR/KR Isaiah Stanback is able to lift his arms to shoulder level, a good sign of progress after dislocating his left shoulder Friday night. His plan is to try to rehab the shoulder and play this season wearing a harness.

Stanback will still have to get a second operation on the shoulder, but he wants to wait until after the season, as he did last year.

"Everybody on this team plays with pain," Stanback said. "If that's what it's gotta come down to, that's what I gotta do."

Stanback said it took him about 10 days to return to practice after suffering the same injury last season, so there's a chance he could be ready for the season opener in Cleveland.

Atta boy Isaiah. Rub some dirt on it.

Ha, I was thinking the exact same thing. I mean it sounds pretty basic, so I hope it doesn't get any worse.

I'm glad hes gonna work through it. If he would have missed this year he would have been set back another year.

As is, I really don't expect to see him flourish (if he ever will) until at least next season.

I dont know how a receiver can play with a shoulder Harness but good luck with that.

I hope we can play with it at a high level because he is such a good athlete and I want to see him contribute this year.

The question is, will he be effective as a receiver if he has issues raising his arms? It shouldn't matter on kickoff returns as long as he can cover the ball up with strength.

Just hold onto the ball, Isaiah.

And if I'm a defender, I'm going right after that weak wing. A harness might protect him from some pain, it isn't going to help him hold onto the ball.

The only downside to this is he is at pretty high risk for another dislocation given he has already had two. Each time you dislocate there is more damage to the labrum and potential for damage to the rotator cuff, head of the humerus, shoulder socket and nerves.

He probably should have had this done last offseason as even after one dislocation at his age there is an extremely high risk of recurrence.

If I were the Cowboys, I might consider putting him on IR. He wouldn't count against the 53 and from what I've seen this year, I'm not certain he will even contribute much to this years club. But this guy has to learn to run with the football. He just holds that ball out there way to free. Can't contribute if your laying the ball on the carpet all the time. That's no good.

Does anyone know what surgery they did last year as there are several of varying degrees of invasiveness.

If he already had one of the major stabilization procedures and already re-dislocated, that is a pretty bad sign.

he going to be terrible. I'd rather him take the year off if he's going to try to play through this injury we might as well cut our loses now.

Have you see the way this guy holds the ball? Expect many fumbles this season. I rewatched his running in slow-mo and he runs and flails his arms like he is going into convulsions. Needs to correct that.

No kidding...Sounds a lot like another Cowboy receiver who opted not to have the surgery he ultimately needed

so stanback is primetime now? Stanback has the same amount of TD's in the regular season as me and you.

You put up with players bad habits if they produce results like TO drops.
