The Steelers are close to a deal with defensive player of the year James Harrison.

So how much will Harrison get from the Steelers? He's an outstanding player. He compiled 16 sacks, 10 quarterback hurries and 34 quarterback pressures and forced seven fumbles.

Could his deal in some way impact what the Cowboys pay DeMarcus Ware, who enters the last year of his contract?

Now, we all know DeMarcus Ware is a better player and in line to get probably $50 million in guaranteed money.

The team is still in talks with Ware and his agent Pat Dye.

Of course it's going to make a difference in what D-Ware gets. That's kind of a stupid question. As soon as Harrison signs we'll have a pretty good idea of where Ware is going to be.

James Harrison almost doubled his '07 sack total of 8.5 with 16 drops in '08.

He has 309 tackles, 28.5 sacks, 1 safety and 3 interceptions in 6 seasons.

Demarcus Ware has 297 tackles, 53.5 sacks and 1 interception in 4 seasons.

Both are going to be well paid, but the Wolf's new contract will dwarf Harrison's.

I think this is the delay (waiting to see what Harrison gets) in Ware's contract talks.

Ware will get more obviously just due to him being younger, but Harrison's deal will be used as the framework.

I would expect Ware's deal to be done in a week or two after Harrison's deal is completed.

No worries, there is no way in hell Dallas is going to let Ware walk out the door.

Ware is going to get paid and he is going to retire as a Cowboy.:D

Sounds like each one is waiting to see what the other gets so they can exceed it :laugh2:

I do believe Jerry wants Harrison's deal done first because he feels Ware will deserve more.

So, what? Basically we just wait for Harisson's deal and then double it?

I read that harrison is looking at 4 yars 42 million. Dont have a lionk but read it and was thinking thats not as much as i thought it'd be. I think his age(30+) is a determining factor.

i think that is the reason why we released as much big money contracts this year. so next year we will be able to pay ware a big base salary in uncapped year without having other salarys to worry about. then when we go back to the cap in 2011 we can structure wares contract to fit better with smaller bases salarys. wares salary will also impact the rest of defensive players on our team next season also. we will not have ellis big base salary next year also. then of course ellis could get traded or release before this season begins.

Um, not on the Zone. Plenty will brand you as a brainless homer for making such an outrageous statement as that.
