Jason Garrett either is or is not the leading candidate for the Lions' job

It depends on whether Michael Lombardi was right yesterday on Showtime's Inside the NFL or today on nationalfootballpost.com.

Lombardi said on yesterday's show that Garrett is "the guy they think can turn their franchise around."

His take today: "I hear the order in Detroit today is Jim Schwartz of the Titans, Jason Garrett of the Cowboys and Leslie Frazier of the Vikings."

Lombardi says the Broncos will have three candidates back for second interviews next week. The Denver Post has the list of seven interviewees, including Garrett and ex-Cowboys assistant Todd Bowles.

Awesome! So now it is just narrowed down to that he will get the job.. or he won't! Glad we cleared that up

I think you can forget Garrett to Denver. Josh McDaniel of the Patriots blew them away. I expect him to get it.

McDaniel interviews with the Rams today. I won't be shocked if Denver moves fast after that. He is the only candidate asked back for a 2nd interview, early next week.

Has Lombardi ever been right about anything?

Agreed, but I'm still hoping for a huge day for Baltimore's offense.

Jason Garrett cannot leave Dallas, it is his destiny to become part of the Head Coaching Cycle that Jerry follows. Once you review this trend I'm certain you will also agree:

Cycle 1:
Jimmy Johnson: Authoritarian Coach that stocks team with talent. multiple coordinators become Head Coaches on other teams.
Barry Switzer: "Players Coach" that inherits talented roster, but loses control of team. Rumors of Lockerroom infighting.
Chan Gailey: Offensive Coordinator that could not cut it as a Head Coach and did not garner the respect of the players. Hovered at mediocrity with mediocre talent.
Dave Campo: Pushover Puppet for Jerry and the players alike. Horrible stretch of bad talent and bad football.

Cycle 2:
Bill Parcells: Authoritarian Coach that stocks team with talent. Multiple coordinators become Head Coaches on other teams.
Wade Phillips: "Players Coach" that inherits talented roster, but loses control of team. Rumors of Lockerroom infighting.
Jason Garrett: Offensive Coordinator that could not cut it as a Head Coach and does not garner the respect of the players. Hovers at mediocrity with mediocre talent.
Dave Campo: It's not just a coincidence that he is back with the team. Perfect fit for second cycle of "Pushover Puppet for Jerry and the players alike. Horrible stretch of bad talent and bad football."

Where this current cycle failed to achieve the intended goal of a Championship was that Parcells did not acquire the same level of talent/leadership as Johnson, so this means that we will have to wait until Jerry goes through Garrett and Campo (again) before we get back to the potential for a Championship caliber team that makes the fans proud of their on-field effort. I would estimate that we will reach that Authoritarian level again around 2013 (2 years of Garrett and 1 year of Campo).

Good point.

Why isn't McMahon digging?

Why isn't he or Gosselin contacting their sources around the league and Valley Ranch to report their own story?

He sits on his lazy *** and blogs about someone else's report.

That's inexcusable.

I rail against pessimism but I give you sir props for making it historical and humor-laden(if painfailly sad) pessimism.

I was joking off the current situation, but Good Lord save me from myself if it plays out!
