If you've watched Channel 8's Dale Hansen even on an irregular basis you know he treats Jerry Jones like a pinata. If you've watched Cowboys No. 1 Jerry Jones even on an irregular basis you know Jerry is far more attracted to his critics than his defenders. So naturally, after nights of being bashed by Dale in celebration of his 20 years as Cowboys owner, Jerry showed up on Hansen's set at 10 o'clock Thursday night to talk about his role with the Cowboys.

Talking points: Jerry is never stepping down as general manager; Jerry loves the Cowboys so much that he was willing to hire a coach "who is not your everyday good cup of tea" and that "cup of tea" wanted Terrell Owens on his team to stir the drink: Bill Parcells and Owens: "Unique awkwardness..."they never spoke."

Jerry on his role as GM: "I'm a bigger risk taker... than most others and you can't pay a general manager enough to take the kind of risks that I take because I am the last resort. I'm where the buck stops. I do have a very risk taking style, hadn't paid off as much as I'd like it to. I'd love for it to have won two or three more Super Bowls...and it really wouldn't be compatible with a pure general manager.

Jones on bad tea: "What I hope that what our fans do see is that there is nothing I wouldn't do to try to win. When you go get Bill Parcells you're trying to win when you are in my shoes because Bill is not your everyday good cup of tea to have."

Is there a day when Jones would step aside as GM: "You know I've worked for myself all my life and what you have to do is make adjustments you have to cut your losses but one thing you have to do is make sure just because you have to clean it up with your left hand doesn't mean your right hand isn't going forward in a very positive way..."

Bother you tho fire players and coaches who don't do their jobs well enough but not GMs: "The good news is I haven't had to run off five or six general managers at the same time when we were changing coaches or we were changing players. That's what happens around the rest of the league that have different systems."

Jones on Parcells and T.O.: You've gotta realize than Bill bought into Terrell joining our team and don't think Terrell didn't come to this team without Bill's blessing. He wanted to win and use the talents of Terrell as much as anyone in this organization...the entire time Bill was coach they never spoke..."

It's crazy that Parcells and TO never spoke. Seemed like they joked about a few things during the end of some of their wins together. Doesn't add up, but oh well. Parcells is gone and TO is still here.

You have to give the man credit for that.

I hope theebs can put this up. This has been a great series by Hansen, especially the interview with Jimmy. Maybe the best comment ever said about the whole Jerry-as-GM situation was Jimmy saying that after a couple of years, Jerry complained to him that "I'm doing great on the marketing and business side, and nobody cares. But you trade for a backup guard, and the whole city celebrates about it. I want to do what you do."

Which proves that no, Jerry, you don't want to win more than anything. You want to be in control and get attention more than anything.

Oh man...I get the impression from this quote that coaches like Jimmy and Bill were like cough medicine to Jerry's little kid side - he hated it, but did it because he thought it would help. Jerry in this case is presenting himself as a martyr - "See guys, see how much I want to win? I even hired brilliant coaches that drive me crazy because they rein me in!" But if there's noone around to force him to, he won't take his medicine. That's why Wade still has a job. With Wade, you can take your medicine or not. Doesn't really matter either way. He's happy to be here regardless.

This is what bugs me more than anything. NO we have not had that turn over at GM like some other teams. However, that shows there has been one constant in the now 12 yrs of losing. THE GM!!!

If you go to WFAA.com, the others are probably all there.

Cool, thanks WG.

One of many great quotes from Jerry:

"You know, I came from the oil and gas business. And that really prepared me for being in the NFL."

:abuseme:

And if I hear Jerry pat himself on the back for being such a risk-taker one more time, I'm going to puke.

the entire time Bill was coach they never spoke...

He went on to say that Owens asked him (Jones) about that though. So it'd seem the wall was built by somebody other than Owens...hmm selfish? cancer?

I like how Hansen ended the interview with the comments by his wife.

I did put this up. Last night. along with the jimmy johnson interview from wed.

It is in the thread named Americas team or jerry's dream part 4.

This interview made me even more pessimistic about the future. I am not sure we will ever win big again with jerry calling the shots.

I dont think anyone is realizing there is a new jimmy interview with hansen from a few weeks ago where he says he was the GM and it was in his contract and now the live interview with jerry from last night..

its all in this thread..

What is that supposed to mean? And yes it is possible. I have been telling myself a good draft and no free agents will help fix things, but after hearing jerry speak I am not so sure that will help the problems either.

It simply means that your pessimism has been off the charts this offseason. For you to feel even more pessimistic cracks me up.

No, instead we get stuck with one incompetent one for the last 15 years.

Sorry, we had an organization on the rise and now it feels like it has been deconstructed and in turn the people in charge do not know how to get back to just being a football team and are not sure what to do.

that leads me to be pessismistic, because I have seen it many times and once here before.

And the kicker is we have some incredible players and I fear there primes will be wasted, which is the saddest part about all of this.

Oh yeah, that's where I saw the Jimmy interview. :) I didn't comment on the Jimmy part in that thread (I don't think) but it was great stuff from the old coach.

I also agree with what seemed to be Jimmy's point of view on Jerry. Jerry's not all bad like some think -- in fact, a lot of what he does is good. But just one or two things he insists on ruins the rest of it. And that's basically that he has to be in charge of everything and won't ever admit that he can't do it all himself.

It's kind of disconcerting that when Hansen hammered Jerry, he did an even poorer job of defending himself than usual. All the talk about what a risk-taker he is amounts to nothing more than slight of hand.

Oh well. I'm just praying for Tom Ciskowski and our scouts right now.

Hey, you feel the way you feel. I realize you love the 'boys, but your pessimistic views is like reading an obituary.

Since I know you feel the team is dying a slow death, I can't help but find it humorous when you make comments about being even more pessimistic.
