Who's going to be the most productive free agent? Seattle running back Julius Jones. He got brushed aside in Dallas because of Marion Barber. But Jones is walking into a good situation in Seattle. He'll take the place of Shaun Alexander and be paired with Maurice Morris in a backfield that will turn out to be one of the best in the league. Jones was a 1,000-yard rusher in 2006 and will return to that level. He also will be a major contributor as a receiver out of the backfield. Jones caught 35 passes in 2005, but the Cowboys forgot about his receiving skills the last two seasons, something the Seahawks won't.
Plus, there's the Qwest Field fast-track factor.

He didn't get brushed aside because of Marion Barber. It was actually the opposite.

Julius Jones is in a catch 22 situation.

He needs the rock several times a game to be effective and the other half of that is he may get hurt and be gone half the season.

Seattle uses zone blocking which is what Julius needs and they plan on throwing the ball more and Julius became a good receiver when he left Dallas. I kind of see him as productive, but not overly productive in Seattle and will probably be a tad overrated. Thankfully for the them they have Duckett to run on short yardage.

So what is this team going to do with Alexander?

Can they even take the cap hit to cut him?

I haven't followed the Hawks cap status too closely, but I can say that he's doesn't appear to have the will play anymore judging by last yr's non-performance. I thnik this sort of thing has to really bother the owners. And we've all heard rumblings of trouble with he CBA. Just one reason why right here.

It is kind of difficult to predict how much Julius is going to produce. Julius may not get many more touches than he got with Dallas in 2006 since both Maurice Morris and T.J. Duckett will be sharing the back field. If Seattle keeps Alexander, which would surprise me, then Julius would get even fewer touches. I think Julius will be a solid guy, which he was in Dallas. Better than the Troy Hambricks of the world, but probably not anything special except for a big game every now and then.

"brushed aside?"

I thought he started most of the year and had plenty of opportunities to miss the back of his O-lineman, but he just couldn't do it consistently.

These writers amuse me.

It's amazing how guys like Julius Jones and Keith Davis didn't get much media love when here, but now that they no longer wear the star, they're the second coming. I wish them well, but this is ridiculous.

He may end up doing well, I bet you they finally freaking throw him the ball in Seattle, throw him screens, draws... you know, all the stuff we said we would do until the regular season actually started.

He may fit their offense betetr than ours...he obviously had talent or he would have never had the kinds of games he did where he got 150 yds, 180, 190 yds or so...

I wont be surprised at all if he gains 1200-1300 yds and scores 10-12 tds with them

This would have been a more appropriate title for the article. I really do wish the guy well but his welcome had worn out here in Big D. Good riddance and good luck. Perhaps those linemen in Seattle will have crutches taped to the back of their uniforms to help keep him on his feet.

I bet Jones goes over 1,200+ yards and adds catches out of the backfield.

I like your optimism but I remember thinking that a few years ago when he was wearing a star. Never happened... If he flourishes elsewhere then so be it. I don't think anyone is prepared to say he would have done so as a Cowboys next year. His track record proves otherwise.

You know Shawn Alexander tanked it like no wait, Julius Jones. I mean if thsi guy is the second coming they must have not seen the games I did. He is the best I've ever seen about running as strait and fast too the pile so he can fall down since Eddie George and his.50 yard average. Sorry but Jones was so bad we didn't even offer him the minimum. He couldn't do anything in a contract year with the line the Cowboys had, sorry but this is just another 'expert" who will eat his words.

We used zone blocking every year that Julius was here, didn't do him much good unless there was an atrocious defense on the other side. It seemed to be a better fit for him until he lost any semblance of vision and quick decision making that he once had. I doubt we see him do anything in Seattle that he didn't do here, except get more carries because Maurice Morris isn't much better than Julius.

Dallas didn't offer Julius the minimum because they knew he wouldn't accept an offer like that. They knew he would want more than they were willing to offer, so they never made an offer. There is nothing wrong with having a Julius Jones on your roster. You just have to know that you are going to need another back to go along with him and you shouldn't over pay for him. Dallas was not willing to over pay.

In other words... Julius Jones is not a feature back. Good riddance. Backs that share the backfield come a dime a dozen.
