Todd Archer E-mail News tips

Three years after the Cowboys gave cornerback Anthony Henry, guard Marco Rivera and nose tackle Jason Ferguson $28 million in signing bonuses only Henry remains now that the Cowboys are about to trade Ferguson to Miami.

Rivera had to retire following the 2006 season because of a back injury, and Ferguson is about to be reunited for a third time with Bill Parcells, who drafted him with the Jets, signed him in Dallas and now traded for him in Miami.

Rivera ruptured a disk in his back while jogging on a treadmill before even playing a game for the Cowboys. He was solid and excellent in the locker room, but not the Pro Bowl performer they hoped for.

Ferguson was also excellent in the locker room but started only five games his first year behind La'Roi Glover and was a stalwart in 2006.

Henry has picked off 11 passes in three seasons, including six in 2007, but he has not been made it through a season completely healthy.

Outside of Rivera, I think we got decent value out of Fergy and good value out of Henry.

Henry was very good in '05, decent in '06, and good in '07. Fergy was okay in '05, great in '06 and then he got hurt in '07, but it didn't hurt our cap and we were able to trade him away and save money.

Archer also forgets to mention Aaron Glenn as a FA signing in '05. He was pretty good for us for two years and enabled the team to have a solid top 3 CB unit for 2 years, despite playing in Zimmer's schemes which failed to pressure the QB.
