Marion Barber slowed by swollen bursa sac

A swollen bursa sac in Marion Barber's left knee is slowing the Cowboys running back.

The injury limits Barber's range of motion, causing him discomfort as he tries to make a move and accelerate, which is why he was limited to three carries and 4 yards in Saturday's wild-card victory against Philadelphia.

Barber played mostly in the first quarter and a few series, but he did not see any time in the second half. As he walked to the locker room after the game, he was noticeably limping. Barber's absence meant a career-high in carries (16) and yards (148) for Felix Jones and 14 carries, his most since Week 4, for Tashard Choice, who gained 42 yards and scored a touchdown.

Barber was added to the injury report last Thursday after being limited in practice. He took part in a full workout on Friday and was listed as probable for the game. It's the second injury to his left leg this season. He pulled a quadriceps in Week 2 against the New York Giants that forced him to miss a game and limited his effectiveness for weeks.

The Cowboys begin preparation for Minnesota today, but they do not have to put together an injury report until Wednesday.

Barber's hurt and I think they said something about Choice having a concussion. If thats the case do we have anyone on the practice squad or does Felix carry the load?

Blessing in disguise... as long as Jones and Choice stay on point with their pass protection responsibilities.

I thought we signed a former USC back to the practice squad.

Feed the ball to Felix and Choice. No reason to involve Barber if he's not 100%.

He was signed by I think the Jets the last time we released him.

I am glad they rested him last week for the most part. If Choice indeed received a concussion and can't go Sunday, I think Barber can play through the pain. I think he would of last week if they had let him.

Felix is playing well, but it is important to have that other guy who is different enough to make the defense have to game plan for both.

so instead of "I'm fine" he said "I am slowed by a swollen bursa sac in my left knee and I am resting it."

that's really an honest mistake that anyone could make.

All the reports I've read on Choice say that he's ok and did not have a concussion. He could have returned for the game if needed.

Cortizone shot should fix that right up. No?
Using google that does appear to be an option. another would be to drain it.

Doctors are reluctant to drain it as (based on what I was told) it is more prone to rupture and just fills with fluid again anyway. It isn't an injury that has much to do with the knee itself, but a good lick will pump it up for a week or two. Time is best cure, although I doubt it'll show much difference by Sunday.

Yeah, I have bursa sac issues at my right hip, and I get it injected with cortizone every year or so to help. It helps right away.

Of course, some players don't like injections.
