Rookie corner Mike Mickens has had some of his struggles in camp posted here, so it is only fair to point out he had a solid morning workout Monday.

Mickens perfectly played a deep ball from Tony Romo to Roy Williams, waiting until the last moment to knock the pass away as Williams raised his hands. It was textbook technique that even brough some good words from Wade Phillips. On the next play he was in perfect position that led to a throw elsewhere.

As he jogged off the field, secondary coach Dave Campo said, "That's what I want right there."

Part of Mickens' struggles I believe are due to his recovery from knee surgery, missing the OTAs and having to practice too much with the injuries to other corners in camp. There is something there with him and he just is around the ball more than Courtney Brown.

According to reports Brown has been working with the 1st team, so Mickens is making a move then Brown probably gets pushed back, hopefully Courtney still makes the cut. I think the kid has talant.

I think maybe too much was made of his early struggles, I want to see him in a preseason game, hopefully he's starting to round into shape.

I do also, I can't wait to see all the young players in preseason, practice is one thing, the game is another as we all know.

.... my impression of Dave Campo is him screaming "good job Pac!" and "way to go Pac!" and getting pantsed.

I think the funniest campo thing was on one of the cowboys hardknocks.

They were going to break huddle and he said something like Team on three.

So he goes one, two..>TEAM and they all look at him and start laughing.:laugh2:

Courtney Brown showed last season that he is afraid of contact. That probably explains his lack of being "around the ball."

Why do I feel like "now that Campo says he's great that he will never play well"?:lmao:

I think Campo is a very good secondary coach which is why he was on Jimmy Johnson staff with the Hurricans and the Cowboys. Why else would Jimmy have brought him to Dallas to begin with.

Cause you nothing about Campo's body of work. Lets see there are Kevin Smith, Darren Woodson, Kenny Gant, Larry Brown, James Washington, Deon Grant, Rashean Mathis, Gerald Sensabaugh, Reggie Nelson, Orlando Scandrick and Mike Jenkins.

Each one of these guys came to him as rookies or in Washingtons case 2 years of DNP. I count 3 All Pros in Woodson, Smith and Mathis and a whole bunch of probowlers.

Quite frankly when it comes to developing your secondary talent there is NOBODY better than Campo. If he says a guy can play then you are fool not to listen.

Agreed

The NFL is littered with good position coaches and coordinators who could never make the transition to head coach.

Just because a coach could not make it as a head coach does not mean they can't be a good position coach and evaluate talent in their area of specialty.

Campo has not been in this business this long because of his good looks and charms. He has been very successful as secondary coach both in the pros and college ranks. :laugh2:
