The Miami Herald's Armando Salguero speculates that the Dolphins will try to make restricted free agent WR Miles Austin the latest Cowboys transfer to South Beach.

I wouldn't worry too much about this one.

Salguero's speculation is based on the fact that the Dolphins, who could use a big, fast, young receiver, wouldn't have to give up a draft pick to sign Austin if the Cowboys don't put a higher tender on him. Austin will get the second-round tender.

He'll be a Cowboy next season. The question is whether the Cowboys will sign him to a long-term extension before the season starts.

Austin is an important part of the Cowboys' future, especially if they decide to cut ties with a fella known around the Dolphins' front office as The Player.

I think Parcells will go all out on this. Miles Austin is young and still commands a relatively cheap salary.

The Cowboys on the other hand will pay Ware a hamdsome sum, and others will have their hands out.

I can jus see Parcells trying to hoodwink a slow-thinking Jerra on this.
but I have an idea we will manage to keep Austin.

I doubt Austin is going anywhere this season if JJ puts a 2nd round tender on him.

Ugh...I don't like only giving him a 2nd round tender. If I were Ireland, I'd definitely give up a 2nd rounder for him.

Yeah.. I think we have a 50/50 chance lose him to Miami with the second round tender..

What is the tender for a first round tender? I mean if it's not an enormous amount of salary or anything why not give him the highest just in case and keep yourself out of worrying. No one will give a 1st rounder for him.

Though, honestly, as much as I like him I don't know that I wouldn't consider it pretty lucky if someone gave me an extra 2nd round pick for him as well. I mean wasn't he undrafted? Or drafted pretty late and to turn around and in just a couple of years get a 2nd out of him?

That's not to shabby.

I'd much rather keep him, of course, cause I happen to be a big fan of him but I certainly wouldn't be upset by getting a 2nd for him.

I like Miles but a 2nd round Miami pick for him I would take with the quickness.

We'd still have the right to match the contract even if they did offer him with the 2nd round tag. And I doubt Parcells would offer him a fortune. Maybe a fairly nice contract, but not a fortune.

I like Miles, but I would take a 2nd from Miami for him because it means they are likely out of the Ron Brace sweepstakes.

amen.

Austin has showed some flashes but he still has 18 career catches.

I'd take a 2nd rounder all day every day for a guy who has averaged 6 catches per season.

Both writers are just being goofy.

1) Yes, Austin will get a second rounder so there is NO chance he can be added without the Phins giving up a pick.

2) Austin has nothing to do with T.O. because he is getting that tender either way and you want Austin long term where T.O. is not going to be here much longer because of simple age even if he becomes everyone's favorite teammate.

A likely scenario is you sign Austin to the tender. He has another year as WR3.5 but gets resigned long term and then the following year he is a clear cut starter. He will probably be a good fiscal value at that point.

***WR3.5 meaning you have sets where Crayton is the 3rd Wr and you have sets where Austin is. They likely each get listed as being a 2 on the depth chart behind different WRs. Austin behind T.O. and Crayton behind RW would be my guess.

If we got a second 2 plus all the picks we have... wow!!!

The draft would be so awesome!!!!

I really like Brace a lot btw. I think he is a much better value than Ravi who is more explosive but takes more plays off. Brace's motor reminds me of Jay Ratliff. Not flashy but just goes hard every play until the whistle blows. His tackles down field in the senior Bowl really reminded me of Ratliff.

Brace at NT with Ratliff and Spears at DE... a new starting FS with Hamlin at FS....

I could coordinate that defense.

:laugh1:

We have 11 picks, and some serious trade bait.

This is going to be an interesting April.

I do not believe Brace lasts until the late second. He will be long gone by the front portion of the second round IMO.

Exactly. I'll take that 2nd so quick it would make Parcells head spin. There's alot of things we can do with 2 2nd picks.

This article is confusing me. How would Miami not have to give up a draft pick if we give Austin a 2nd round tender?

Who do you think would grab him that high?

Not doubting, just asking.

I guess he's saying if we put the undrafted tender on him, since he was undrafted.

But of course, we would never do that.

Indianapolis might trade down or even grab him at the bottom of round one. They supposedly like him a lot.
