Newman has another ailment

Wade Phillips said Terence Newman's partially torn plantar fascia is pretty close to completely recovered. Now, however, Newman's knee is bothering him

Phillips said Newman has patella tendonitis. Not sure which knee it is, and odds are Phillips isn't, either. His standard response to those sort of questions: "You've got a 50/50 shot."

Don't expect Newman's role to increase this week. He'll probably stick to just playing in the nickel and dime packages.

Phillips says Ellis is 50/50

Wade Phillips said OLB Greg Ellis has been upgraded to 50/50 for Sunday's game against St. Louis.

Ellis indicated this morning that he didn't think he'd be ready to go against the Rams. He backed off a bit when told that Phillips said yesterday there was a chance Ellis would play.

"If Wade said it, it may happen," Ellis said. "I don't know. Like I said, I've still got problems with it. I'm not there yet. I'm not going to shoot my head coach down if he said maybe I'll play. I'm not going to say that he doesn't know what he's talking about, but we've still got some problems with it."

Still doesn't sound like a guy who thinks he might be able to play Sunday, does it?

"I think you need to talk to him again," said Phillips, who added that Ellis would be used primarily in pass-rushing situations at first. "He practiced and he seemed to be confident after practice."

Wow. Good and bad news about Newman. I thought his PF wouldn't heal at all this season?

Greg Ellis is going to end up hurting us more than helping us if he takes one step on the field. The guy doesn't even sound like he WANTS to be out there.

I was thinking the same thing. That's oustanding news if true. His knee shouldn't be too much of a problem if cared for properly...certainly not as bad as the plantar fascia tear I would think.

Is there any chance we can trade him to New Orleans for Mike MacKenzie or Usama Young?

Sounds like Ellis is telling the staff one thing and the media another.

If he gets on the field in October, that is 1 month less than a year. It would be nothing short of a miracle.

I'd rather keep him on the bench and get a fresh, healed, healthy, angry Greg Ellis at the end of the season.

Imagine playing the Pats in the Super Bowl - Greg Ellis vs. Randy Moss.

I'd kill to win and Greg just taunt the crap out of Moss.

The Tank and Ellis will roll into Big D second half of season to fortify the lines.

Let's not sweat the small stuff. We are getting our young LB valuable experience.

I think I saw Ellis's Mom feeding him Chicken after the Texas Tech game. :)

Newman is more of a concern.

Sounds to me like he's telling Wade one thing and the press another.

I've posted several times that I think guys like Ellis and Glenn should take the year. I don't know where you got I want him on the field now.

Do you think this is payback for not giving him a new contract?

Maybe Ellis is thinking "no new contract....I think I am still hurt"

I am not saying this is what is happening, I am just throwing this out as something to think about.

Supposedly that is completely against his character. I have thought about that lately however.

Ellis is injured. IMO, him even attempting to practice, blows your theory right out of the water.
