Jay Ratliff has been fined $7,500 for his roughing the passer penalty last week at Denver.

Ratliff hit Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton with the crown of his helmet on a 12-yard compeltion to the Cowboys 42. After the 15-yard penalty, they were at the Dallas 27 and five plays later the Broncos kicked a game-tying field goal with 6:02 remaining.

Still waiting to hear if cxenter Andre Gurode was fined for his tripping penalty and if Denver left tackle Ryan Clady was fined for his trip of DeMarcus Ware.

Tripping is not a finable penalty. Flozell was fined for kicking as he tripped players.

JH Christ. When will it end?

I hate that they even flagged him for that, much less fined him for it.

They might as well start putting flags on the quarterback or have them wear a red shirt like in practice with a warning label stating any hit will result in suspension or forfeiture of pay.

And you might as well get used to watching great matchups like Brian Hoyer vs. Jim Sorgi and Charlie Batch vs. Troy Smith

agreed. NPL the National Pansy League. Too Tall Jones is probably laughing saying "I thought he didn't hit him hard enough" let alone to get fined for it.

I liked how the announcers were talking about how that used to be a textbook tackle.

no, but the rules are their to protect QBs.

And please realize that the blow to the head issue comes pretty much directly from the experiences of guys like Aikman

If he just blows up Orton with a cheap shot that's one thing, but he didn't.If that was a high school or college game that is a form tackle, one that would be used as an example of what to do.

You nancies should never ever play the game.

I can understand leading w/ the helmet violations and blatant hits on the QB and his head. What we have here is a blatant attempt at generalizing every possible tap on a QB.

It needs to stop.

Fans are REALLY getting turned off w/ all of the stupid fines and constant rule changes the league has been doing.

This stuff is just childish.

It was not a freaking helmet to helmet hit, he wrapped him up and came down on him. Holy crap, you can't hit a QB below the belly button or above his nipples or it's a damn foul these days, now they fine for every freaking penalty as well.

This is getting sad...it won't be too much longer before we completely remove the gear and go straight flag football.

That's amazing. The NFL is ruining the fame with this crud. They are basically penalizing and fining guys because they got unlucky, not because they indented to hurt someone. A guys hands grazes a face mask inadvertently or barley grazes a helmet and its 15 yards and a first down. Pure crud......

QBs should wear skirts from now on. The NFL is taking "protect the quarterback" way to far.

If your leg is moving in the direction of the player, it is officially becomes a kick.

Spearing, horse tackle, and the like I understand, but it's getting out of control.

The NFL is becoming a joke. Football is supposed to be a full contact sport.

And it is pretty clear that NFL refs should not be expected to determine intention - the rule is what it is. I prefer good old hard hitting ball but I am smart enough to realize that given the advances in strength training etc., defenders are just going to flat out kill QBs if they aren't protected more.

You can say fans are "turned" off by all the fines but that is NOTHING compared to how turned off fans will be seeing inferior QBs playing b/c the #1 guy is out.

And the NFL rule is you can't go helmet to helmet. so if that is what they are teaching in HS and College then they need to realize that is no longer the correct way to tackle a QB.

Maybe Golf is a better game for them then.:

I think all of these rules that promote player safety are more a product of greed than anything else.I'm not saying that player safety should be ignored, however there is a line between player safety and creating a glorified flag football league.I think the protection of any marquee offensive player is more important to the league than the game itself.Marquee players are the face of the league and have to be protected at any cost is the current mantra it seems. It boils down to how much money players like Brady or Manning make this league and those revenue makers have to be insulated from injury in every way possible.I'm just of the opinion that the game is being undermined by corporate greed moreso than for player safety.
