Tim Anderson, a candidate to be the backup to Jay Ratliff at nose tackle, suffered a toe injury during conditioning workouts and will need surgery.
The Cowboys were looking at Anderson and Junior Siavii to take over Tank Johnson's role.
Anderson will need three months to recover.
The injury necessitated the signing of Jonas Seawright on Monday.

It always sucks to suffer a freak injury like that.

I wasn't expecting anything from Tim Anderson, but now he may not even get a chance to try and make the team.

What is the deal with injured toes during conditioning workouts? This sounds just like what happened to Felix!

Jason Hatcher was also listed in the DMN Blog as not participating.

I hope he is alright.

:bang2: If it weren't for bad luck, we wouldn't have any luck at all.

We need to bring in another true NT. We can't count on Siavii as the backup. Don't know if Anderson will come back in time to show enough to push Siavii and make the team.

I think the turf toe is due to the field. Too much traction coupled with the effort and speed of these guys. Tears the fascia and ligaments.

I dunno, I'm really pumped to see Junior play this preseason. Some people whose opinion I respect said they paid close attention to him last year and he did really well at holding his ground and taking on double teams.

The other day I was googling some old articles on him and he does have a lot of ability. (There was even an article about how he didn't really get into weight training until he became friends with Igor at Oregon... Kind of like Wade mentioned.) He needed to learn how to play the game and he needed to mature as a person, but maybe that's happened the last couple of years. He was a second round pick for a reason.

That's if we can keep him from getting hurt during some warmup sometime. Seriously, I'm glad they're tearing up that field and starting from scratch with a new one.

They are replacing the practice fields, so hopefully that puts a stop to the toe injuries.

Well it won't stop it but it should help. Deceleration is probably as likely as acceleration and cutting. Strain, strain, strain then tear. Plus some people do not genetically have as much strength in their connective tissue as others.

What's it going to be then, eh?

Why don't you call 1-800-NOSE-TACKLE and see what you can come up with then.

or we could've drafted 10 special teams players instead of 11 and drafted a backup NT.

:signmast: Agreed. Even though Rampage is a blatant USC hater.

Some role, I guess that role would be being a star of Hard-knocks on HBO and then becoming a complete liability on the DL by being consistently blown off the ball.
