I'd be lying if I told you I stayed glued to the pregame shows on the Cowboyless Sunday. But I watched some and was backed up by the highly-skilled, underpaid pr folks from the networks who always offer selected tidbits.
I. Fox bloodhound Jay Glazer said the Ravens queried the Bills about the availability of Terrell Owens . Now, I did watch the Jets-Bills on CBS and did catch an occasional glimpse of TO, blocking or walking back to the huddle. But he wasn't anything like an integral part of the Bills offense with 13 receiving yards. Reported Glazer: "Buffalo, however, rebuffed the inquiry and instead has been adamant that they have no interest in shipping their free-agent pickup out of town. Buffalo sources say that up to this point, Terrell Owens has been nothing short of a perfect teammate and is trying to be a happy camper."
II. On the NFL network early morning pregame Michael Irvin proclaimed the New York Giants: "The next team that we use the word 'dynasty' around." Final score: Saints 48, Giants 27. It wasn't close to being that close.
III. Circle the date Dec. 19 on your calendar. That Saturday night the Cowboys visit the Saints. Maybe NFL Network will do us all a favor and blackout the game.
IV. Most inappropriate name for a pregame show segment: NFL Network's "Super Bowl Journey" with Commanders tight end Chris Cooley.
V. CBS's Charley Casserly said he talked with OU QB Sam Bradford's dad and "His father told me last night the injury to the shoulder was not serious. I think if he comes out in the draft, it's not going to have much, if any, impact at all. If he was in the draft last year, he was going to be a top five pick. I don't know why it would be any different this year."
VI. Fox's Jimmy Johnson doesn't think Tim Tebow is in Bradford's class as a NFL propect: "If Urban Meyer is brought along with Tim Tebow that would be the key. If you're going to bring in Tebow, you've got to make sure the offense comes with him because Tebow's not going to fit in with a pro-style offense."
VII. NFL Network's Marshall Faulk, who was a nifty RB for the Rams would like to own a piece of the team and would appreciate a call from group trying to buy in. "I would love to be a part owner...that would be a great honor, but I haven't talked to them at all."
VIII. Michael Irvin looks at the Cowboys next opponent and sees Matt Ryan, Michael Turner and Roddy White in a surprising light: "Every time I look at Atlanta, I have those visions of yesteryear...this team reminds me of the triplets." For now and probably forever, I'd take Irvin, Emmitt Smith and Troy Aikman.
IX. Former Cowboys assistant coach Mike Ditka celebrated his70th birthday in ESPN's pregame studio. When he blew out the candles, he said he wished his fellow analysts "were as smart as me."
