One rookie to watch: Orlando Scandrick

If there's one player that I can't wait to see Saturday, it's Tank Johnson. But another guy to watch is fifth-round pick Orlando Scandrick. The talented cornerback from Boise State has quietly made some headway in his battle for a roster spot behind players like Adam Jones, Anthony Henry and Mike Jenkins.

Scandrick clearly wants to show Boise State coach Chris Peterson that he was indeed ready to leave college for the NFL. According to the Idaho Statesman, Peterson said several times last spring that Scandrick would be best served by staying for his senior year.

Well, that didn't go over very well with the 5-10, 192-pounder from Los Alamitos, Calif.

"I've just got something to prove," Scandrick said. "A lot of people wrote me off and didn't think I was prepared. They called me all kinds of different things -- a raw athlete, a developmental project. That kind of stuff touched me. I'm out to prove that I'm not a developmental project. I listen well, don't have bad character and I'm coachable.

"I'm fortunate that Mr. Jones took a chance on me. I'm not going to let him down."

In a sense, his coach was right. Word is that had he stayed another year he could have been a 1st or 2nd rd pick. Moneywise that would have been much better for him barring injury.

Talentwise, June Jones thinks he's the best player we drafted.

I made a post earlier where I said that Scandrick is playing the way Jenkins should be. By that, I meant that he's out there making plays and sounds more like a first round pick than Jenkins.

How sweet would it be, if both pan out.

Sounds like we have a highly motivated rookie with a chip on his shoulder.

That isn't an altogether bad thing.

I watched both of them live at training camp last week. I came away impressed with both and they both have a very good chance to be good players in this league.

I was struck at how thick they were. Just well put together guys who run really well. They seem a bit raw, but that will come. Especially with Campo constantly pointing out nuances with them.

I bet June Jones still wakes up some nights in a cold sweat remembering the kick-blocking and returning exhibition Scandrick put on against Hawaii. He completely tore their heart in front of the home crowd in Hawaii.

That capital "B" definitely took more effort than just adding a damn "e" to the sentence.

I hope he does, I need some company:lmao2:

Actually, I didn't see that game; I had to read about it afterwards. Most of the UH games are shown only on pay-per-view, the bastids!

These posts concern me about Jenkins. It's early obviously, but I really hope he works out. Scandrick? Sounds like a solid nickel back for years to come. Hope he has the quicks to come in and cover slot receivers like Smith of the Giants, Randle-El of foreskins, etc....if he doesn't we can always have Pac do it while Newman and Henry man the outside.
