*The Tony Romo-to-Roy Williams connection got off to a rocky start this morning, with Terence Newman jumping an out route and dropping what would have been a pick-six. But Romo and Williams clicked later during team drills. Williams went up over CB Alan Ball to snatch a deep ball from Romo, who threw a rope to Williams' back shoulder. Williams scored another touchdown on a skinny post in front of SS Gerald Sensabaugh during red-zone drills. Williams, operating out of the slot against the second-team nickel defense, got behind ILB Jason Williams for a big gain that might have gone for a TD.

*Newman had an impressive PBU on a Romo pass intended for TE Martellus Bennett. The deep ball was a severely underthrown duck, setting up a jump ball between the 6-6 Bennett and 5-11 Newman. Newman got up high enough to get both hands on the ball and prevent the former Aggie basketball player from coming down with it.

*Bobby Carpenter worked next to Bradie James with the first-team nickel defense. Carpenter made a diving interception of a Romo pass intended for WR Travis Wilson across the middle.

*Courtney Brown, who wasn't physical enough to contribute as a safety, is working as a cornerback. The 6-1, 204-pound Brown, who posted a 4.32 40 and 41.5-inch vertical leap during the pre-draft process two years ago, has intriguing measurables for a cornerback. He played corner for Cal Poly, but the Cowboys moved him to safety in part because he doesn't have quick hips by NFL corner standards.

*Backup QB Jon Kitna and second-team center Cory Procter had problems with exchanges. They had two dropped snaps. Montrae Holland, who is filling in for Kyle Kosier (foot) at right guard with the starting unit, worked on center exchanges before practice.

*Jason Garrett showed his wild and crazy side by calling a halfback pass during red-zone work. Marion Barber hit Patrick Crayton for a TD in the corner of the end zone. "That's money, baby!" Barber hollered.

*Orlando Scandrick got the majority of the first-team reps at CB opposite Terence Newman. Mike Jenkins got all the first-team reps during the OTA workout the media was allowed to watch last week. Both second-year corners will play a lot, but that should be a fun competition to watch during training camp.

*WR Sam Hurd did not practice due to a quadriceps pull he suffered last week. However, he did stay after practice to work as a holder, as did Crayton.

*Stephen Bowen worked as the DT between DeMarcus Ware and Jay Ratliff in the nickel and dime packages. Jason Hatcher should also compete for that role, but Hatcher hasn't participated in OTAs due to a knee injury.

*Other players who did not practice: P Mat McBriar (excused absence to attend a wedding), TE Rodney Hannah (broken finger), WR Isaiah Stanback (knee), NT Tim Anderson (toe surgery).

Carp should be a Commander. He always shines in the offseason.

Come on, CL. He's a playa :laugh2:

In all seriousness, I think that he can play well in the nickel.

No pads and no hitting = Carp time. ;)

Seriously, I'll happily eat crow if he grows a pair and hits someone this year.

He would do well to land in New England. That way he'll be closer to his other job in Bristol.

Whats up with Romo and all the wobbly passes? Never confused his arm with Elways but didnt seem to be a problem in the past.

Yep. Hes gonna make enough noise in the offseason just to keep people interested in watching him have another failed year.

Is the "4th and Long" winner not competing in OTAs? Just curious.... If he is, I wonder how word has not leaked out yet.

some things never change

Stanback and Hatcher not participating because of injuries, and Carp excelling until the real contact occurs.

good times

PROCTER!!!!!!!

I'm sure he doesn't even know how gone he is. They are going to interview everyone including Rowdy for the backup center spot.

Carp can cover. He doesn't need any help looking good in that aspect of the game. ... However, Romo is his buddy.

Do we have a "don't ask, don't tell" policy on this forum?

I think this ^^^ guy, Stasheroo, and McCordsville are in danger of "telling". :D

You do realize Newman is a pro bowl calibur CB as has shut down many great receivers...steve smith anyone....so maybe its not such a terrible thing that he is getiing the best of Roy in OTA's...just a thought
