Pads start popping in the morning

We'll get something that closely resembles football in the morning, when the Cowboys put on the pads for the first time in 2009.

As was the case the first two camps under Wade Phillips' watch, there won't be much tackling. But there's a misconception that there isn't much contact in Phillips' camps. It's full speed, full contact for the linemen, although cut blocking is outlawed to try to prevent leg injuries.

"It's got to be physical and it's got to be violent until you get to the tackle," Phillips said.

Phillips said the Cowboys will do their tackling during the preseason games. He'd change his mind about his no-tackling policy during camp if he didn't think his team was tough enough.

You folks be nice and don't bring up the Texas Stadium finale in the comments section.

Oh Boy, he still hasnt learned yet!

You know what that means don't you?

It's Bobby Carpenter time!

haha, BC is a champ from the huddle all the way up until it is time to tackle..I expect him to be the player of the morning session.

Are they going to wear knee braces during camp to prevent injuries ?

The offensive linemen always wear them, I know that for sure. I think the defensive linemen do too, but thats about all the dallas cowboy players that wear them.

Poor tackling plagued this team last season it's nice to see Wade taking steps to improve that...

oh wait :bang2:

Didn't Parcells require the offensive linemen to wear knee braces during camp?

I think I would probably fall over and push dasies if people just for one day didn't complain about something that has to do with the Cowboys.

Guess I got spoiled by watching Jimmy J's camps years back. It just doesn't seem quite the same without all the intense contact somehow. I'll go to one or two just to check it out, though -- can't help myself!

Are you even aware of the few teams that still do full tackle?

Tackling for the sake of tackling doesn't help you become a better tackler, technique does.

Well good thing they will tackle during preseason games. Can't imagine other teams would be willing to stop the play just prior to a tackle.

and you perfect that technique by not practicing it?

Not practicing the basics is like a basketball team not practicing jump shots :bang2:

A tackle is all technique until it connects. Then gravity does all the work

the minute a guy got injured getting tackled in training camp people would piss and moan non stop about how horrible of a coach wade is for letting them tackle each other in meaningless situations.

there is no win to this.

Unless that technique involves reaching for flags we're in trouble :laugh1:

Followed by a thread from Quarterback Coach about how Wade doesn't know how to run a team properly and keep them staying healthy.
