RB rotation ain't broke, Barber says

Marion Barber had a better opening night than Julius Jones, so it's time to start lobbying for Barber to get a bigger share of the carries again. Too bad Barber won't cooperate with the cause.

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it," Barber said before vowing to arrive at the locker room early enough to get in and out by the time reporters are allowed to enter in the future.

Wade Phillips said the RB rotation would change from game to game, but Barber and Jones wouldn't necessarily have the same roles as last season. Phillips said they have different packages of plays for each back. Playing time will be decided by which plays the Cowboys want to run, not necessarily game situations.

"We're more mix and match," Phillips said.

Barber is a team guy all the way. Gotta love him. His Dad raised him right.

But he still should be getting the lion's share of the carries.:D

Definitely like what I hear from Barber when he's interviewed but then again, he's in a contract year too.

And what exactly does 'mix & match' really mean?...I mean, under what circumstances does JJ really make for a better option than Barber?...Only one that comes to my mind is if there's a gaping hole up the middle for someone to run through, then maybe JJ is the better option.

Or maybe when we need pass blocking...

This, IMHO, has to be one of the great misconceptions that's been routinely floated when comparing the two...That Barber is somehow an inferior pass blocker...I don't see it....I see the differences between JJ/Barber and Tyson but not between the two main RBs...I never liked that theory.

I like the Barber/Jones tandem.

It's DEFINATELY not broke......so why mess up the chemistry? Teams can't get a feel for either guy because they aren't tackling the same guy every play.

Our running game is golden. Leave it alone.

I'm not going to comment, just check out Romo's TD run and see Barber's blocking. Then watch the other TD highlights and see Jones' blocking.

I often wonder if JJ sees it the way Barber does.

If he doesn't like it, I would love to see him do something about it. Like runinng for a couple of hunnies.

I see what you're saying on the Romo TD run but in fairness he was taking on two oncoming rushers, one of whom got taken out of the play...And as for Jones, the only thing that I could see on any of the other TDs that he blocked for was in the Hurd TD sequence...And in that example, he did the same thing Barber did and had the same result.

The difference being, on the Hurd TD, Jones took out the one guy that could have tipped the pass. On the other, Romo was forced to run it in. Look, I'm not saying Barber is bad, what I am saying is that I think Jones may be better, especially after Wade's comments.

Yeah, I see what you're saying...I still think the results of the blocking in both scenarios amounted to the same sort of assistance but it's really unimportant...If anything, maybe Jones is better at blocking but I guess I don't see a glaring difference between the two...Certainly, nothing that would suggest JJ should be starting much less seeing more reps than Barber.

Seriously.

The guy is as unselfish as they come. If we play fair, it should not be difficult to re-sign this guy to a very nice contract, and don't expect him to hold out if his numbers go up either.

He'll never say it. He probably doesn't even feel it, given that he's always split carries.

But he definitely deserves more here.

Whatever, the combo worked quite well Sunday night. I don't see any need to change it.

Pure class by Barber, who I believe has looked like the best back in Dallas for a while. Of course, this won't stop anyone from trying to stir up a good old fashioned "controversy".

Yep. Class guy that knows better than to say something stupid in a contract year... The media is really reaching and it's just week 1.
