Tony Romo might want to give Drew Bledsoe a call

I'm not sure how much Brett Favre's phone call influenced Tony Romo's decision to try to play Sunday against the Rams, but Romo might want to call Drew Bledsoe to pick his brain about toughing it out with a broken pinkie.

Actually, Bledsoe and Romo had sort of a frosty relationship, so we'll just let Tom Curran of NBCSports.com explain.

In 1998, Bledsoe smashed his throwing hand on the helmet of a Dolphins defender and broke his pinky. He played with the pain for a three games (all wins, helping to resuscitate a Patriots season) but the finger worsened and he ultimately had to have pins placed in it. The pins hurt. A lot. And Bledsoe had to be shelved which led to the Patriots being led by Scott Zolak in a playoff game and a quick exit from the postseason.

Is it really worth the risk to play against the Rams, dude?

Not at all. Johnson is a good QB. He is more than servicable against the Rams. Rely on Johnson for 3 games

If it fires this team up, yes, it is worth it.

That is a huge "if". The lose to Washington was suppossed to be what fires the team up. Letting Cleveland stay in it was what was suppossed to be what fires them up. At some point you have to stop looking for outside sources to fire you up.

And it could just as easily be said that having Romo out of the lineup and the team trying to come together after what is the worst overtime result in history could be what the team needs to fire them up.

That's what I'm saying. We go 2-1 with Johnson at least and have the bye week. Romo take the month off, you'll still make the pro bowl buddy.

I'd rest him for a couple of games, gives it some time to heal and then there is the bye week. Brad should be enough to beat the Rams at least.

why is everybody so certain that we'll beat the rams? they managed to beat the once mighty Commanders so i'm not taken them for granted even with romo healthy.

Romo doesn't have a broken pinky. Its in his hand, wrapped by a bunch of meat.

I don't think I take them for granted as much as I just think that Johnson is enough QB to give them some issues. Any given Sunday, sure, but Johnson at the helm is not so much a bad thing. It might even be beneficial to have mistake free football agianst them so we aren't beating ourselves.

i just have very little faith in Johnson. Last time he played in a real game with the Vikings he looked absolutely attrocious. Mabye with the time he spent watching on the sidelines here his body rejuvenated. He pretty much looked exactly line Vinny did with the Jets before he came here. I expect the same results with Brad. 1-2 at best and let's fast foward to the bye week please.

I'd agree if this was a playoff game (or had serious playoff implications). But it's not, so why why risk the franchise?

Besides, I think it might do Tony some good to hold the clipboard for a week or two and critique Johnson's performance w/ Garrett throughout the game(s).

Also, I realize Johnson's a vet and all, but I think it's a good thing to give him some snaps when the opportunity arises. When was the last time he saw any meaningful action?

I say Romo suits up but Johnson gets the start. If it looks like Johnson can't win the game, Romo goes in and Johnson is given the boot. If he can't beat the Rams with the weapons we have I don't want him here.

I don't think Romo needs to talk to others about how he feels. Most players want to play even despite an injury. The coaching staff has to be the deciding factor based off what they see from Romo through out the week. As of yesterday Romo threw off to the side but did not practice that means he is not taking snaps from center can he handle that without fumbling the ball? What is his accuracy like right now? does his passes lose zip and accuracy after a few throws? only way to know this is to see it during the week.

Yeah give Bledsoe a call...

"Honey, it's the guy that stole your job in Dallas and effectively ended your career as you stood scowling on the sidelines for the rest of the season..."

This example of Bledsoe is exactly what I'm worried about happening. His toughness and will to play turning a minor, few weeks injury, into a bigger, longer term one.

You guys are crazy to think risking losing Romo for the season is a good gamble.
