I think Dallas' corner stable is as full as its been since 1992- 1994, when the likes of Kevin Smith, Larry Brown, Isaac Holt, Dave Thomas, Ray Horton, Clayton Holmes and Joe Fishback were on the Dallas roster at various times.

All non flashy but above average talent that worked well in the system.
A similar distinction is deserving of the current stable.

He really stood out in that group. It's a shame he tore hos achillies.

Nobody played Rice in his prime as well as Smith.

I guarantee you both Jenkins and Scandrick will be starting at some point this season. Newman will get hurt with something.
sadly, this is true.

I hope that isn't the case. This training camp they can let TNew get ready without having to fully push him. He is always in condition, he is getting up there in age (not necessarily years in the league) and he mentally prepares very well. With all the young CB's Dallas has, this is the perfect camp to protect TNew in order to have him healthy for a full season and to enable the youngsters to get more reps in camp and preseason.

I agree with Drew "Next Question" Rosenhaus by the way. I am confident that Jenkins will excel as a starter this season and in the future. I also have a great deal of confidence in Scandrick too. Kids a baller.

I am very interested in seeing the kids from the Cincy Bearcats too.

Drew Rosenhaus is always on the mark.

I hope Mike Jenkins is ready to compete with Orlando Scandrick and may the best corner start. Rosenhaus is just pimping his client, which is what he is paid to do.

It won't make winning the starting job from Ozone any easier.

I think that Jenkins will "win" the starting job at corner, but only because Scandrick is a much better slot cornerback than he is. If there were two Scandricks, one would start at CB and the other would start in the nickel.

of course that was based on last year, let's hope young Mr Jenkins take a huge step forward this season...

I'm just trying to conclude how we know whether Jenkins is better than Scandrick on the outside. Things could change this year, but based on last year, Scandrick was far better than Jenkins.

Oh ye of little faith.

How many games did Terence Newman miss from 2003-2007? He missed the first 2 games of 2007 and could have played in Washington (the last game). They finally gave the guy his due and selected him to the Pro Bowl in 2007.

Everyone was getting hurt last year. Newman had a fluke injury.

I don't know what's gong to happen with the health of the players. Anyone can get hurt in football. However, I don't get the logic of saying that you "expect" Newman to get hurt, because you are basing your projection off one year, a fluke injury suffered during a non-contact drill where the other guy fell on him.

In fact, Newman is a young 30, and he will be a young 31.

If Terence Newman stays healthy, I predict that you will not see any difference in the level of his play from age 31, 32, 33, and 34, imo. I predict that those years will all blend together. Newman's birthday is just a number to him. I guarantee you he thinks this way. Newman has only played 6 years. He has a whole lot of great football ahead of him. Newman takes very good care of himself, and the way he is built will enable him to keep on going.

I can't wait to see Newman still playing just like he is at age 33 and 34, because I strongly think you will see it.

As far as Mike Jenkins goes, he was consistently good in December. He saved the first Eagles game, or you are 8-8. The Tampa Bay game proved he was ready to start in the NFL.

Mike Jenkins is going to take multiple INTs to the house during his career. He's going to be deadly going down hill (north and south) or jumping routes, and he played very good inside, too. Good luck to all the QBs who attack Jenkins from the numbers to the sidelines, because he is quick as a cat. He has very long arms and will match up with bigger WRs very well.

Yeah you're right about Newman and injuries, for some reason and it's probably not true, it just seems like he's always nicked up.

Time will tell on Jenkins, but I do know this, he'd better get a little tougher with tackling because if 11 guys are on DEfense, it's 11 guy's responsibility to bring down the runner.

It's just my opinion, and I was probably in the minority for sure, but it looked like Jenkins froze on that play when he thought he was going to run into Burnett. Jenkins had to hold outside contain on that play. If he cuts in too fast to make the play, the RB is going to run to his outside. I gave him the benefit of the doubt, because he was drilling people in the Tampa Bay game.

There were some tired players on defense in that game, and I saw Anthony Henry not want any part of Brandon Jacobs right before he scored a TD. That wasn't the story.

I think Jenkins and Scandrick both showed that they belong and can play last year, but that is just me.

I think some fans don't understand how well Jenkins played last year, because Scandrick did play really well. Plus, Jenkins didn't get to play as much, and they remember that one play you reference and seem to forget the pick 6.

That pick 6 was vintage Asante Samuel.

If I had to guess a reason why Jenkins may start over Scandrick at RCB it would be because Scandrick would move to the more difficult to play LCB position when Newman moves to the Slot in Nickel and Dime situations.

I doubt you'd want to move him all the way across the field if you start him at RCB in place of Henry.

In other words Jenkins is more suited to RCB and to stay there.

Big surprise that his agent believes he'll win the starting job and be great. All Drew can see is $$$$$ signs in the future so what else does anyone expect him to say?

I hope Jenkins and Scandrick both play like they deserve to start, because Newman is not going to be around forever and they can both start. :)

If Jenkins isn't embarrassed about that, then something's wrong with him.

Here is Mike Jenkins' pick six in that same Giants game. Did any other CB have a pick six? Jenkins jumps the out in his third NFL start and takes it for a TD.

On the Derrick Ward play:

Jay Ratliff lost on that play. He got blocked.

Greg Ellis went rushing up field and gave a huge running lane, just like when Brain Westbrook slid in for the triple at Texas Stadium.

Kevin Burnett got blocked on that play.

The front 7 looked worn down at that point in the game.

That wasn't Mike Jenkins best play for sure, regardless of what happened to him. I still think it's possible that he just froze after he felt Burnett would make the play, and I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt based on his play through out the season, especially the Tampa Bay game where he had several good hits/tackles and on other angles of that play.

It is possible that Jenkins could have misjudged Ward's speed and Burnett making the play, or Jenkins thought he was going to run into Burnett. Therefore, he looked indecisive or tenative. Other angles on that play don't look as bad as the ESPN one. In fact, other angles made me think that perhaps, Jenkins thought he may run into Burnett like I mentioned above. Jenkins isn't playing the game in slow motion. His brain is processing that play in real time or from the snap until the end of the play.

If you misjudge a player's speed or a linebacker making a tackle (perhaps the linebacker didn't have the angle you thought he had), you could freeze up. The guy was a rookie, and the speed of the NFL game isn't played in slow time ESPN highlight reels. Jenkins got that play full speed. No one knows what his brain was processing unless they have been a defensive player on an NFL field. It is possible he just misjudged the play and froze.

I may be on an island on this dumb play where three other guys got beat, but I'm willing to stick up for Jenkins.

addition by subtraction.

We finally have some stability at SS with Sensabaugh.

We were all watching Henry loose a step.

PacMan came with a money back guarantee.

the only thing Pacman cost us was a roster spot, so no big loss.

This secondary got better because of those moves, much faster/younger now.

Newman
Jenkins
Scandrick
Ball
Mickens r
Smith r

Thats some good battles there for the 4th/5th at corner for this camp.

Alot of peeps already talking up this kid Mickens as being a steal in the 7th.

You get another Scandrick in this Mickens kid, and this secondary is stacked.

Ball could finish up this group and batltle it out with Smith,, might beable to hide Smith on the PC, could be a risky move.
