I don't understand all of the bellyaching over an agent going to bat for his client. That is what they do.

Hang one over #9's locker then.

Romo didn't go to the probowl last season. You should stick to evaluating NCAA QB talent.

Here is Mike Jenkins' pick six in that same Giants game. Did any other CB have a pick six? Jenkins jumps the out in his third NFL start and takes it for a TD.

On the Derrick Ward play:

Jay Ratliff lost on that play. He got blocked.

Greg Ellis went rushing up field and gave a huge running lane, just like when Brain Westbrook slid in for the triple at Texas Stadium.

Kevin Burnett got blocked on that play.

The front 7 looked worn down at that point in the game.

That wasn't Mike Jenkins best play for sure, regardless of what happened to him. I still think it's possible that he just froze after he felt Burnett would make the play, and I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt based on his play through out the season, especially the Tampa Bay game where he had several good hits/tackles and on other angles of that play.

It is possible that Jenkins could have misjudged Ward's speed and Burnett making the play, or Jenkins thought he was going to run into Burnett. Therefore, he looked indecisive or tenative. Other angles on that play don't look as bad as the ESPN one. In fact, other angles made me think that perhaps, Jenkins thought he may run into Burnett like I mentioned above. Jenkins isn't playing the game in slow motion. His brain is processing that play in real time or from the snap until the end of the play.

If you misjudge a player's speed or a linebacker making a tackle (perhaps the linebacker didn't have the angle you thought he had), you could freeze up. The guy was a rookie, and the speed of the NFL game isn't played in slow time ESPN highlight reels. Jenkins got that play full speed. No one knows what his brain was processing unless they have been a defensive player on an NFL field. It is possible he just misjudged the play and froze.

I may be on an island on this dumb play where three other guys got beat, but I'm willing to stick up for Jenkins.

Good post, there is always more than one side to a coin.

Also, most corners are not bell knocking tacklers or willing tacklers for that matter. Their job is to cover or make a tackle if the WR makes a catch. They are not accustom to being in an alley with a RB barring down on them.

Just ask yourself, during the Oklahoma drill what are the DBs doing?:)

addition by subtraction.

We finally have some stability at SS with Sensabaugh.

We were all watching Henry loose a step.

PacMan came with a money back guarantee.

the only thing Pacman cost us was a roster spot, so no big loss.

This secondary got better because of those moves, much faster/younger now.

Newman
Jenkins
Scandrick
Ball
Mickens r
Smith r

Thats some good battles there for the 4th/5th at corner for this camp.

Alot of peeps already talking up this kid Mickens as being a steal in the 7th.

You get another Scandrick in this Mickens kid, and this secondary is stacked.

Ball could finish up this group and batltle it out with Smith,, might beable to hide Smith on the PC, could be a risky move.
Smith will be playing more FS than CB, so he should make the roster.

Yep your right, I find myself constantly having to go back to look at the rooks, because I keep loosing track.
But thats what Ive read as well that D Smith is being looked at safety.

Scandrick unquestionably outplayed Jenkins last year, but that doesn't mean that he can't be the better player eventually, and might be a better fit opposite Newman (as pointed out in a football post above :)) As an aside, I think that Jenkins' new nickname should be twitter.

Drew Rosenhaus: 'I'm confident Mike Jenkins will excel as a starting cornerback this year'

Mike Jenkins got a little Twitter love from promotional whiz/superagent Drew Rosenhaus this morning.

I'm confident Mike Jenkins will excel as a starting cornerback this year for the Cowboys. Mike is ready to assume a starting position @CB.

I'm confident that Orlando Scandrick will make it tough for Jenkins to claim the starting job opposite Terence Newman.

Based on their performance as rookies, you wouldn't be able to figure out which cornerback was a first-round pick and which was a fifth-rounder. You could make the case that Scandrick, who was consistently solid in the slot, had the best season of any Cowboys' cornerback. Jenkins showed flashes but struggled at times.

To Jenkins' credit, he isn't assuming anything. He wrote on his Web site that he feels like he's ready to start -- and his goal is to be "at least" a Pro Bowl alternate -- but he expects a good camp competition with Scandrick.

Are they his clients? if so his prediction is about as interesting as a corporate p.r. director's claims that his company makes great products. That said though. I bet he is right on this one.

I don't like Rosenhaus, but I agree with him. Mike Jenkins can start opposite Newman. So can Scandrick. It doesn't really matter to me which guy starts as long as they both give us all they have. That said, Scandrick outplayed Jenkins in 2008. No doubt about that.

doesn't matter who starts, because in today's NFL, the 3rd CB is pretty much a starter anyways with teams trying to spread Ds out w/ 3 and 4 WR sets

What do agents really know about football anyway?...Aren't they simply middlemen/lawyers etc. just working out contracts for players?

I mean, does it matter at all what Rosenhaus thinks of a player's abilities when it comes to the club itself?
