There were all sorts of rumors coming out of the Senior Bowl that Marcus Spears and Bobby Carpenter were on the trade block.

Well, Spears' agents thought that as well. They called the Cowboys during the Senior Bowl and asked was there any truth to the rumors.
Dallas, according to Spears' agents, said the defensive end is not going anywhere.

As for Carpenter, I remember Wade Phillips saying toward the end of the season that maybe he might have been a little too hard on the second-year man from Ohio State. Carpenter played poorly in the last preseason game at Minnesota. And that game was the basis to which Phillips and probalby the rest of the defensive staff viewed Carpenter.

Maybe Dallas gives Carpenter another chance to prove himself this season. For now, he's staying.
Shock and awe follows this blog, but not from me.

well, it starts off like this. you log into a cowboys forum somewhere - or even an opposing teams and you see a headline that says:

HEARD ON THE RADIO! TRADE RUMOR!!!!

so you click the thread and read something to the effect of:

i was driving while listening to the radio the other day and i'm not sure who was talking, (sorry, was on the phone too and people were honking at me for some reason) and some dude on the radio said that ware was going to be traded to miami for the #1 overall pick. i had to think about it at first, but the overall #1 pick when we got ware around 12?

think about it! parcells picked him so he's a parcells guy and now parcells is calling all the shots in miami, so it makes sense! we can finally get mcfadden and we'll let spencer take over the pass rush role!

what do you guys think????

and then of course you get the usual replies and calls of stupidity, but that doesn't live on. some other dough-eyed cowboy fan hurting for news sees it and hell, it's printed right there on the internet, so we must repaste it. it soon finds it ways into this forums where a 16+ page thread harps on:

1. the overall stupidity of the thread and idea
2. "this ain't madden" graphics will populate the thread
3. people will be quick to remind the poster that parcells wanted spears first so ware really isn't a parcells guy
4. someone else will want to know why ireland or sprano isn't calling the shots for players and so forth
5. someone else will compare that to jones and how come when jones does it it's bad.
6. that will bring out the jones haters to tell you why it's bad
7. that will bring out the jones defenders to say the haters hate too much
8. that will spawn at least a 6 way argument
9. we'll get a graphic in saying "in before the lock!"
10. the thread gets locked

all because someone on the freaking cell phone can't understand what's on the radio cause he's doing 2 things he shouldn't be doing when he should be driving.

:laugh2: Amen and Amen ----if you are going to post, bluetooth is mandatory----that way you have a free hand to write the facts down:laugh2:

BP and Ireland should be forced to give us a #1 for Carpenter. I find it very hard to believe that he was the #1 talent on our board when we picked.

No, you don't get it .. Bill and Ireland have had nothing to do with the drafts the past couple of years that rebuilt the team. Ireland was a paper gatherer. Jerry had 6 different guys vote, they took a consensus grade, and that's why we have talent again.

And you should have seen how many people on this board with joy when Carpenter was there for the taking. "We didn't need two Wares".

I still scratch my head at yet another dumb pick by Parcells, Carpenter hasn't even impressed on special teams... I believe Fasano and Carpenter are worthless picks.

I still think both can contribute a lot. However, if Carpenter can't see more playing time. and there is trade value there, I wouldn't be angry over it. Only because of Spencer. Depends on the future of Ellis also.

With the emergence of Tony Cutis, then I say the same for Fasano. Are they both wasted picks...absolutely not. But I would be completely upset if we get good value back for the needed areas or future picks.

I was here and it made me sick then and even sicker now. :puke:

It seems we were wrong about Carpenters ability, though he still has this year to show something. BUT the reason for going after him was VERY valid. BP had no idea if Ellis could play OLB= he could have been a total stiff. We had to have SOMEONE there and BP thought Carpenter was a guy who could step right in. Turns out he was wrong but a LOT of people thought the reason for the pick was valid.

Carp...........with all of our pass coverage problems, and thinking back to the playoff game last yr. vrs. Seattle.....he had some decent moments in pass coverage....from a interior LB position.., and it seems to me we didnt let S.Alexander get away from us at all either.....

just cant see why he was exiled to special teams based on 1 game only....either it was a entire pre-season problem, or a gross overreaction

BP and Ireland knew they were going to Miami, so they wanted to destroy the Dallas Cowboys by drafting Carpenter....

I think that quote is mentioned out of context, because Wade also mentioned Bradie James in the context of Carpenter. He went into tarining camp thinking that Carpenter was going to compete with Bradie James, but Bradie James was playing lights out. Bradie's performance surely didn't help Carpenter in seeing action on the field.

Awesome news.

Ratliff, Canty, Spears, Hatcher, Bowen at DE? We have great depth.

Carpenter back too? Good. I think he'll contribute for us next year in much more meaningful ways than just special teams.
