So now we know that Terrell Owens is working himself out of the boot that was over his high left ankle sprain. But that's hardly confirmation that Owens will play on Jan. 13, and why the Cowboys receivers are readying for all possibilities.

"We get prepared for both, we’re going to be prepared for ‘With him’ and we’re going to be prepared for ‘Without him,’" Sam Hurd said. "You just don’t look at one aspect of the game. I know it’s a lot of hoping, and he said he’s going to be ready so we think he’s going to be ready. We’re going to prepare, first, to be with him, because he said he’s going to be ready and we believe in him."

I think if you watch the tape from Sunday closely, and you know what you're looking at, it's pretty clear that the Commanders' options were much more open (playing man without safety help, blitzing, etc.) from a play-calling standpoint with Owens absent.

"It does go to a lot of man-to-man," Owens said. "Teams have to fear him in a lot of aspects of the game, because of who he is and what he brings to the table. We do see a lot of man. When he’s out there, teams will jump from man to zone and back to test us, but we gotta handle it the same way."http://cowboys.beloblog.com/archives/2008/01/hurd_co_prepared_for_anything.html#email

This kind of got lost in Monday's paper, but the Cowboys re-signed tight end Tony Curtis to a one-year deal worth $445,000.

Why is it newsworthy? The Cowboys added a million not likely to be earned incentive in his contract - playing 55 percent of the special teams' snaps and blocking four kicks - that would add $3.5 million in cap room in 2008.

Since Curtis didn't block four kicks, the Cowboys have added $3.5 million in space.

That brings their total space up to about $16.75 million for next year, but don't get too excited. That room doesn't include the tender offers they will make to restricted free agents, like Marion Barber and Chris Canty, exclusive rights free agents and the practice squad players they will sign to future deals. And it doesn't include the incentives the players hit this year, like Flozell Adams' earning $500,000 for a Pro Bowl trip.

Take away that money - and we're guessing Barber will receive the first- and third-round tender and Canty a first-round tender - and the Cowboys will have about $10 million or so in room for free agency.

I don't expect us to due much in FA, maybe one Mid level signing, especially if we resign Hamlin and high Tender Both Barber and Canty.

BTW, is that $10 Million enough if Hamlin is resigned, Flo Franchised plus that one mid level player signing?, it's gonna be close.

I'd expect us to be further under the cap than the $10 million stated here. You'd have to check with Adam, but I'm pretty sure that figure is on the low end. Maybe not putting into account for the increase for next years cap?

Use that $10 million on Hamlin, Flo, and a FA corner. Move Henry to safety, cut or trade Roy W., and then draft a RB, CB, S, and WR in rounds 1-3 and the team is set.

It all depends on what he'd ask for and what we're willing to do with other players. Cutting Glenn and Ferguson would add another $4 million or so back to the cap.

By the way, I'm not sure tendering both Canty and Barber would reduce us to $10 million. Last year a first-and-third round tender has a $2.35 million salary and a first-round tender had a $1.85 million salary. I'd guess that those numbers will go up this year, but not by 50%.

That # includes the offers to Barber, Canty, and the other RFA and ERFAs as well as space taken up by players hitting incentives. The author is saying when all is said and done, they should have $10 million to play around in FA with.

Pretty sure that Glenn and Freguson are goners.

Why do you think Glenn is gone? Do you think he is going to retire because of his knees? If so what was the point to him having a less evasive procedure done in the hopes of still being able to play? If he is going to be gone next season why not just go for the surgery he was trying to avoid in the first place?

The surgery he went for pretty much put his knee in jeopardy of being a ticking time bomb. Instead of going with the microfracture, which would have possibly increased his career. He went the removal of the damaged portion, so that he can get back this year.

I can't see him playing another year on that knee without further problems.

 I'm confused with this paragraph!

Is T.O. speaking in the 3rd person here?

Franchising Adams would probably cost us in the $7-8 million dollar range, for just next year. Not a smart move IMO.

Yes, I think that's what the author is saying.

$10mm is more than enough cap space to sign a couple of veterans in FA.

I doubt we sign more than 2-3 anyways. Maybe 1 RB, 1 secondary player, and possibly 1 WR.

And we're likely talking about mid-tier FAs as well.

Bank on it. But with Glenn - they may try to reset the contract a bit to keep him on.

That caught me, as well. I'm guessing he meant to say Hurd continued saying..., not Owens.

Franchising him would cost more than that. Negotiating a 3-4 year contract would probably cost less.

I don't think Glenn will be here next year and this has nothing to do with money.

I don't think Glenn will be able to go through another full season without a reconstructive knee surgery. he opted for minimal invasive surgery just to have a chance to participate this season knowing that he still needed reconstructive surgery after that.

knowing that and knowing that that kind of surgery will end the 08 season for him as sad as it is for me i expect Terry Glenn to end his career at the end of this season.
