Todd asks the question on an earlier post if you would be open to having Greg Ellis back on the Cowboys roster.
My question is this: would Anthony Spencer have developed into the player he was at the end of the season if Ellis had never been let go? I don't think so.
Remember, Spencer got off to a slow start. He failed to record a sack and had more than five tackles in a game only once in the first half of the season. Based on those numbers, Ellis would have taken more and more of his snaps in the second half of the season.
Based on where they were, I'm not sure Spencer would haven't beaten Ellis out of the starting job heading into the season.
Spencer got his legs under him and finished strong with six sacks, two forced fumbles and 15 quarterback pressures in the final six games. If Ellis had been around, he never would have gotten the snaps he needed in the first 10 games to develop to that point.
