STOCK RISING
WR Sam Hurd: He caught five passes for 79 yards, catching every ball cleanly and doing some damage after he got the ball in his hands. Hurd, who entered the game as the clear No. 4 receiver, also drew a pass interference penalty in the end zone. His performance was tempered a bit by two holding calls, on one the opening kickoff and one on a long Tashard Choice run.
CB Orlando Scandrick: Oakland tested Scandrick deep twice. He had great coverage on seventh overall pick Darrius Heyward-Bey both plays. He also made a good tackle in the open field against Darren McFadden to prevent the Raiders from extending a drive.
RB Keon Lattimore: Barring an injury to one of the Cowboys' three proven backs, Lattimore has little chance to make the team. But he helped his cause with the other 31 teams by rushing for 55 yards on 11 carries. He also caught two passes for 14 yards.
STOCK FALLING
WR Miles Austin: While Hurd put on a show, Austin dropped the only pass that was thrown his way, a slant from Jon Kitna that hit him between the numbers. Austin has had a good training camp, but the gap between Nos. 3 and 4 appears closer than the one between Nos. 2 and 3.
LB Bobby Carpenter: It's the same story as last summer: Carpenter looks good in training camp but struggles once the games start. He's fine in his nickel and dime role, but the Cowboys can't have any confidence in him if he has to start in place of Bradie James or Keith Brooking. He was a non-factor against the run, getting credited for only one tackle despite extended playing time against a Raiders offense that racked up 6.8 yards per carry.
CBs Courtney Brown and Mike Mickens: They got a vote of non-confidence when Alan Ball, who has been focusing on free safety, started opposite Orlando Scandrick. Brown and Mickens confirmed that they're not yet NFL-caliber cornerbacks once they got on the field. They both were beaten repeatedly, picked on by journeymen quarterbacks Bruce Gradkowsi and Charlie Frye, who combined to throw for 241 yards and two TDs. Brown, a third-year player, is probably running out of time to prove he can play. Mickens, a rookie seventh-rounder, is on the roster bubble.
