Official word is set to trickle down from Bristol.

Emmitt Smith's 2-year contract is up and it won't be renewed.

"We thank Emmitt for his contributions to ESPN and work ethic the past two years. We wish him all the best," ESPN spokesman Bill Hoffheimer said.

That this would happen became obvious during ESPN's Super Bowl coverage which did not include Smith.

Note: Networks like to pass on news of this type on Fridays when the news cycles are winding down. Hirings come early in the week. Separations late on Fridays.

As much as we all love ES, he was absolutely HORRIBLE as an analyst.

Yeah, he was. Keyshawn annoys me more than Emmitt ever did though.

Agreed

It was a poor pairing with smarmy Young too.

Being an analyst is not what Emmitt is cut out for. He should look for employment in another field. Hey, at least he gave it a shot and now he knows.

Maybe being a dance instructor...

Anything where he doesn't have to talk.

Yes, he was. But he did improve during his time there.

Irvin was horrible at first too, and he also showed great improvement and eventually became my favorite analyst on the show.

So basically... they wait for a player to actually start learning how to do the job...

Then they fire him.

That's BSPN for you.

I thought Emmitt had a job with Staubach's company??? In addition to his ESPN gig...
Staubach sold his company in July. Something like $610 million.

The "Win a date with bbgun" charity auction netted slightly less than that.
