Patrick Crayton took the direct snaps when the Cowboys tinkered with their version of the Wildcat formation last week. Tashard Choice got his turn at the helm of the Razorback today.
It's all experimental at this point. Wade Phillips reminded reporters today that this is the time of year to test new wrinkles that may or may not be seen during the regular season.
But Choice is comfortable in the role. He says he ran a Wildcat-like formation on a regular basis for Georgia Tech during his days as the ACC's leading rusher, often running a zone read that required him to read the defensive end in order to decide whether to hand off or keep the ball.
"They're looking at it to see how they like it," said Choice, who ran between the tackles after faking to in-motion Felix Jones on the few Razorback reps today. "But you've got to have somebody who can run it at the Wildcat position. Most of the time it's a running back who can throw and run the football."
We know Choice, who averaged 5.1 yards per carry as a rookie, can run the ball. Can he throw it?
"I haven't thrown in a minute, but I can throw the football," Choice said confidently, pointing out that he threw a TD pass for the Ramblin' Wreck. Sure enough, Choice's college passing stats are one completion on one attempt for 17 yards and a TD.
