Tim MacMahon
After yesterday's North Texas Super Bowl committee press conference, reporters got Tony Dorsett to reminisce about the good, ol' days when the Cowboys won playoff games on a regular basis.
Dorsett cited the firm, steady hand of Tom Landry as the biggest key to the Cowboys' success during his career.
"We had a coach that could keep everybody in place," Dorsett said. "Everybody respected him. They had some type of fear. He was the coach, and he made all the decisions. And he knew that. There was nobody you could go above our coach to try to get something done. If Tom Landry made a statement, that's the way it was going to be."
When Wade Phillips makes a statement, that's the way it's going to be, as long as he ran it by Jerry first. Everybody knows that Jerry calls all the shots -- something that Jerry makes clear several dozen times each year.
When asked about Jerry, Dorsett gushed about what a great owner he was. But ...
"I would love to have played for an owner like Jerry Jones," Dorsett said, "but coaching is the coach's job."
