A day after Tony Romo's attempt to move on to sectional qualifying for the U.S. Open fell short, so did his attempt to move on to the "open" qualifying for the HP Byron Nelson Championship.
Romo shot a 79 Tuesday on the Dye Course at Stonebridge Ranch Country Club in McKinney and he was done in again by No. 16, like he was Monday at Dallas National Golf Club.
Sitting at 2-over with three holes to play and in contention to finish in the top 23 to move on to the next round of qualifying, Romo made a triple bogey on the par 5. After a perfect tee shot, Romo's second shot sailed right into hip-high grass. Needing a few minutes to find his ball - with the help of some spectators - Romo took three more hacks in the tall stuff before getting into the opening.
He bogeyed his final two holes to finish 7 over.
Fear not, he was on his way to Valley Ranch after his round for a work out Tuesday. On Monday, he worked out before his round at Dallas National.
