That's what Jerry Jones said today on his show on The Fan.

Jones was asked if the Cowboys had lost Sunday would Wade Phillips remain the coach.

"Yes, he would be and without equivocation," Jones said.

Later Jones said, "Under no circumstances would I make a change. We've got a chance to get a lot of things done and we've got a lot of football left to play and we've got some good people that not only can play it but coach it."

Jones pointed to the NFC East rival New York Giants as an example of patience paying off.

"Two years ago the Giants were seemingly not in disarray but they were in trouble," Jones said. "It was also absolutely expected that something was going to happen with the coach, Coughlin. Maybe during the year but something was going to happen and had to go. And of course [Eli] Manning was on the hotseat and would never be a winner. Well, that same year they won the Super Bowl. You've got to be mindful that this is a long, long journey so to speak ... A lot can happen from the beginning to the end."

Sensible fans and media already knew this. It's the parrots who are squawking non stop who don't get it.

I respect Jerry not being knee jerk and standing by his HC. You let the season play out and see where we are in the end.

Great! I wish this would shut up those who call call other people shills.

Midseason coaching changes are disastrous and are not gonna happen-Jerry has also never fired a coach during the season. So anybody making a thread calling for Wade or Garrett to be gone the next time we fail to score in the red zone or give up a TD on defense is just being foolish.

Thats true Hostile, but let me ask you this;
what if the cowboys dont make the playoffs, have another year like last year, and jerry jones still sticks with wade. What do you say then Hostile?

Not trying to speak for him, but I think the point is in regard to this season.

Firing Phillips midseason does nothing to help this team.

I think most everyone is in agreement that if this team doesn't make the playoffs there will be a change at head coach.

Wade will be gone in the offseason then.

I agree with Jerry to an extent.

Yes, it does no good to fire Wade now unless he wants to see what kind of coach he has in Garrett. In that sense, if the season becomes a lost cause, then it might be beneficial to go that route.

However, I do hope that Jerry is looking at the situation clearly and not continuing to believe that everything will work itself out like it did with the Giants a couple of years back. This isn't the first time he has mentioned this, but he needs to know when the fairytale Giants dream... is just that, a dream. We will see what happens.

Only thing he can say at this point. I have no doubt Jerry will not make a change mid-season.

But if Jerry thinks the season is long now just wait if the losses start to pile up and the home town fans turn on him and this team while he sits in his open air luxury box in his brand new stadium and he has a lame duck HC and OC on his hands. He hasn't seen long yet. :(

Like others have stated, he is talking about THIS season.

However something to consider that might put a pep in your step.

Although Jerry has never fired a coach during the season. He is human and although he honestly has no intention of firing him during the season who could be persuaded to change his mind.

I believe he was honest at the time he said he had no intentions of letting TO go, but later changed his mind after being persuaded.

Now does that mean I think he will get rid of Wade during the season. No I really do not. Does that mean that is 100% written in stone...No because you just never know.

Another thing to consider. Just because he says he will keep Wade this season aka not fire him during the season. It does not mean he is not already contemplating firing wade at the end of the season. It also does not mean he has not already got an idea of who he wants to be the new coach.

Remember Camp in his last year losing to the expansion Texans. I believe that was the final straw for Jerry. He did not fire Campo during the season but I believe he already had his mind up that he would in the offseason and already was considering who he would hire as the next coach.

So again, Just because he says he will not fire Wade (during the season) it does not mean that it can not happen, nor does it mean that he is not already thinking of the next coach...whether that coach is already on the team or another coach not with the team.

The scary thing to me is the idea that what happens if the Cowboys wind up going to the playoffs, win a game or even more spectacular goto and or win the Superbowl. That would really throw a monkey wrench into things because I think one of those scenarios is the only thing that would Keep Wade as the HC for the cowboys. And that is a gut wrenching scenario...we all want the team to reach the next level but at the same time I think most of us realize that Wade needs to go.

Yep. Much better to flush a season down the drain than salvage it in some way. Of course, it was all but flushed when Wade survived Philly last year. Still waiting on all that "change" he promised us.

In that scenario, Wade's gone no matter what happens this season. We all know only Jerry fires a HC the same year the HC wins a Super Bowl. :)

Jerry has shown he will fire a HC. Switzer is no longer here nor it Gailey or Campo. If Wade can't get this turned around then I don't think Jerry would keep him for the heck of it. On the other hand it is important to show support of your coach and hanging with them instead of basing your firing off 1 game. You certainly not going to attract any decent coach if they feel they will not get the support from the organization

Don't fully think so. There was some sarcasm in his post. He was insinuating that firing Wade will actually salvage the season, when in all reality, that's when the actual flushing begins.

I gotta worry about stuff that has no prayer of happening? I'd rather not. I'll stick with the relevant.

I'm curious, how exactly would you salvage it? IMO, if Wade were fired during the season, no new coach would be able to bring in his own staff, which makes it that much harder for that coach to be effective. IF Wade gets fired during the season (which I don't see happening), JG would be the only choice for interim coach IMO.

You don't win a footrace by stopping to change your shoes halfway through it. There's no HC change out there that would salvage this season if it doesn't go well for Wade. The best you would do would be to get a head start on 2010.
