Wade Phillips has been around long enough to see players produce one of their best efforts against former teams.
He expects that to happen with Chris Canty Sunday.
"Usually a player, when he plays against his old team, plays better because of motivation,'' Phillips said. "Whatever the motivation is, they play their best. We see that in the league all the time.''
A six-year, $42 million contract enticed Canty to shift to the New York Giants during the off-season. A torn hamstring limited him in training camp. But Canty was able to return for the regular season opener and played roughly 20 snaps in the Giants defensive line rotation. He had two tackles, one for a loss.
"We didn't sign him, but we sure wanted him,'' Phillips said. "He was an important part of us winning a lot of games the last two years.
"We think a lot of him, there's no doubt about that.''
