Ranking the top 10 Dallas Cowboys players

OK, we ranked the Top 10 NFL players. Many of you were shocked at how high Donovan McNabb was. We're believers. So, now we're ranking the top Cowboys' players.

1. DeMarcus Ware. The best pass rusher and defensive threat.
2. Terrell Owens. With or without Terry Glenn, the Original 81 is a force on offense.
3. Tony Romo. Has a 0-2 mark in the postseason. Expect that to end.
4. Flozell Adams. Not the best at his position around the league, but a dominant player.
5. Jason Witten. We forget that Wit is the No. 2 threat in the passing game.
6. Terence Newman. He should be higher. But he's the best corner on this team.
7. Nick Folk. What, a kicker?!?! Yeah, he won the game in Buffalo and made a big kick in Miami last year.
8. Zach Thomas. Yes, the old man can still play a little bit.
9. Bradie James. The heart and soul of the defense. He will get more chances to roam the field this season.
10. Marion Barber. He's the starter now. Will he get 1,000 yards?
Others receiving votes: Andre Gurode, Jay Ratliff, Greg Ellis, Adam Jones, Ken Hamlin.

That top ten in the nfl is just plain ridiculous, it just shows how little they know about football.

...and why is that?

I agree that you can leave him off but you can easily make a case for him to be on it as well.

The only qualification that I can think of that would leave him off of this list is that he's never taken a snap with the star on.

My list:

Demarcus Ware
Terrell Owens
Terrence Newman
Jason Witten
Tony Romo
Leonard Davis
Flozell Adams
Zack Thomas
Marion Barber
Andre Gurode

Others receiving votes in no particular order: Ken Hamlin, Bradie James, Anthony Henry, Adam Jones, Greg Ellis.

That's a pretty impressive list of players.

Thomas is old and injury prone. Sure I hope he plays well this year but he has more name recognition now than actual star ability. We are not getting the Zach Thomas of 1999 here.

The Zack Thomas of any year has more ability than any linebacker not named Ware on our roster. Including last year.

I thought this was a team sport? All these guys would be worthless without the other ten players playing next to them at any given time.

Pro-Bowl Guard Leonard Davis doesn't merit even an honorable mention?

Yikes....

My list would look like this:

1. Demarcus Ware - By the end of the year he could very well be considered the most dominant player at any position in the NFL.

2. Terrell Owens - Arguments can be made that he is the #1, #2 or #3 WR in the NFL.

3. Jason Witten - IMO best TE in the game bar none.

4. Tony Romo - Another year like last year and he will solidify his himself as one of the top 3 QBs in the game.

5. Terrence Newman - If he ever gets some INTs, he will get the recognition league wide that he already deserves.

6. Leoonard Davis - One of the best guards in the game

7. Marion Barber - The guy runs like a mini Earl Campbell. Pretty good compliment.

8. Andre Gurode - Not a sexy pick, but still one of the best centers in the game...watch out if he masters the snap in the shotgun.;)

9. Flozell Adams - A very aggravating yet underappreciated player on our roster.

10. Adam Jones - Speculation at this point, but this time next year this pick will not look so bad.

BTW if I were doing a most valuable Cowboy player list it would look much different.

This team will live and die on Tony Romo.

I would put ROMO 2nd but understand.

Throw in a another year like last year along with a Lombardi and go ahead and move him to #1.

Their commentary on that NFL top 10 is quite revealing.

They say Merriman "is a force on every play," which play-by-play analyses have shown is far from true. For a guy who gets quite a few sacks, he gets very few pressures. According to Football Outsiders, when Merriman had 17 sacks in 2006, he had only five other QB hits and only 12 hurries (tied for 39th in the NFL). Ware had 11 hits and 25 hurries (sixth in the NFL) that season -- more than twice as many of each.

Bob Sanders "changes the game," even though he almost never makes any game-changing plays.

And Eli Manning gets put at No. 9 because he "won a Super Bowl," but Ben Roethlisberger has won a Super Bowl, too, and is a MUCH better quarterback, and he's not on the list.

Oh, and Flozell Adams is way too high on our top 10.

No, 1,300-yards will be his mark this year.:)
