What should be first on Dan Reeves' agenda?

What should Reeves' first (or second) priority be?

Should Reeves teach Wade Phillips and his coaching staff how create more team harmony? This is much more than just "cracking the whip." That would serve no real purpose. Hopefully, Reeves the consultant would help the Cowboys change the systemic problems in the locker room. Frankly, I don't see Reeves' role as one who determines whether T.O. goes or stays. That's up to Jerry Jones and Phillips. But Reeves should help Phillips and Jason Garrett figure out a way to help T.O. coexist should the receiver stay.

Should Reeves summon Tony Romo to his office for some serious Come to Jesus meetings. That conversation probably starts with Reeves offering up this opening salvo: "Um, Tony, do you know John Elway." Heck, get Elway on the phone for a conference call. As much as we all love Staubach and Aikman, now that Reeves is on board, the Cowboys should have access to a third Hall of Famer.

Update: Check that. Turns out Reeves and Elway hate each other. Well, that's certainly problematic. Maybe time has healed all wounds?

To me, these seem like the top two issues confronting the Cowboys. Reeves can address the other issues later: keeping Greg Ellis happy/cutting him loose, how to juggle the running backs, how to get Roy Williams more involved, etc.

So what should be No. 1 on the Dan Reeves' agenda?

In my opinion someone needs to get Romo to understand the importance of taking care of the ball. There needs to be a serious cracking of the whip on Romo because he plays careless at times and someone needs to get him to understand you cannot play like that as frequently as he does. If we can get Romo to take his game to the next level, in my opinion everything else will follow. Remember, winning cures almost everything.

The blog is basically asking a question--and I guess in that sense it could be a discussion starter. But I do think a number of posters here could do a much better job with a blog.

First, it has to be the locker room, with true leadership being accountable and making other players, while finding out whom the rat or mole is in the cowboys locker room or the cowboys organization

That is the BIGGEST ISSUE TO ME FIRST!

Next, 2nd biggest issue is practice tempo in OTAs and training camp, no more of this camp cupcake or camp marshmellow, because its has been proven thesee players dont respond to being treated like professionals. They need a firm hand in the locker room, the OTAs and Training Camp.

No more first 25 days without hitting in practice, no more of this, oh you lost the game, but you played hard, so im going to give you an extra day off.

3rd point is, alot more heavy emphasis on special teams. NO more of wade philips lightly paying special teams attention, this must be a major priority too, and if some players attitude is that they dont want to play special teams, then that attitude needs to be changed.

first thing he should do is get announced as a consultant and give us a clue as to what the purpose of his hiring is.

First thing he should do is double the strength of his Zocor prescription. With this team, that cholesterol is going to shoot through the roof!

I'd say his first job is to evaluate this roster and help Jerry, and Company, move forward with the releasing of players that need to be replaced at this point. Also with which FA, of ours, to not bother pursuing in retaining.

Agreed, I have no idea what his place is. And I also don't see how he can have much of an impact, if he's a consultant he probably won't be in the locker room or at all of the practices. He won't have the power to hold players responsible.

He should tell Garrett to dye his hair. That red hair is really distracting the players.

Agreed.

And I would also add that Romo needs to assume more of a leadership role and stop trying to simply be one of the guys and just another player on the roster.

By virtue of being the quarterback, it's part of his job description to assume a degree of leadership.

Whether he wants to or not.

If Shecter is right or if we take Reeves at his word when interviewed earlier, then the T.O. rumours might be accurate
