Who cares? Not the Cowboys

Tim MacMahon E-mail News tips

The Cowboys pinpointed their problem during today's game. They really didn't give a hoot what happened as long as they didn't suffer any more injuries.

Of course, the Commanders played with the passion expected of a team fighting for a playoff berth. The result: The Commanders kicked the Cowboys' butt up and down the field.

"The word for us was uninspired," Wade Phillips said. "It shows you when one team is fired up and the other one isn't. Basically, I didn't get our team ready to play."

Added Tony Romo: "You saw what happens out there when one team plays with that much emotion and the other one really doesn’t. Obviously, we didn't match their intensity level, and that's the story."

The motivation mismatch was most evident in the Cowboys' running game. Dallas gained a franchise-record-low 1 yard on 16 carries. That's 0.06 yards per carry.

"We didn't play with intensity, and they did," Pro Bowl RG Leonard "Bigg" Davis said. "And it showed."

Not a good sign.

I don't care how the Cowboys lose, but they'd better put their butts on the line everytime they're on the field.

Admission is a good sign.

Hopefully, they'll rectify this error.

Sounds right.

I wish a reporter would have followed up with why didn't you have ANY intensity? I understand they had more intensity but you played like you had none.

The players' response is potentially more disconcerting than the loss. These are professionals who should take pride in their on-field product. I would rather them tell us how much they dislike losing and how badly this loss makes them feel.

Perhaps they are saying that and the media just isn't reporting it.

The thing that bothers me the most about this (and it's a BIG thing) is the fact that you just can't turn intensity on and off. You have it or you don't.

I think this team has great character. We came back to win two games in the last few seconds. That says something.

Hopefully, we realize that you have to maintain intensity all the time in the NFL.

The O-line certainly didn't play with intensity. They were horrid.

How about a followup question asking Wade what he plans on doing to get his team fired up and ready to play? I'm sure he wouldn't have given much of a response but he has a big task ahead to get this team in the right mental state to win a playoff game.

this game was 100% meaningless to Dallas

the hand wringing over this loss on this board tonight is nothing short of comical

did anyone actually expect Dallas with NOTHING to play for and the Commanders with everything to play for to result in a Dallas win? or even Dallas coming out and busting their ***? and if so...why? I only wanted no injuires...nothing else mattered. nothing

I'm more concerned about our play for the whole month of December.
