Why doesn't Larry Allen stick around for a season?

It's nice that Larry Allen signed a one-day contract to ceremoniously retire as a Cowboy. Now, how about an extension?
Allen isn't the All-Pro force he was during his heyday, but you'd have a hard time convincing anybody that the future Hall of Famer wouldn't be an upgrade over the guys who played guard for the Cowboys last night. Allen did start 16 games for San Francisco last season.
Allen probably couldn't pass Bill Parcells' conditioning tests right now, but Wade Phillips doesn't get worked up over that kind of stuff. Heck, the Cowboys just traded for a guard whose gut was way too big for the Broncos' tastes.
As dominant as Allen was, he only played on one Super Bowl champion. Why not try to wrap up his career with another one?
Plus, it'd delay his Hall of Fame speech by a year. And Allen always did go out of his way to avoid public speaking.
