Will Browns leave LT Joe Thomas alone vs. DeMarcus Ware?

Hall of Fame scribe Rick "Goose" Gosselin writes that LT Joe Thomas deserves as much credit as anybody for Cleveland's sudden transformation into a good offensive team last season.

Thomas established himself as an elite LT as a rookie. DeMarcus Ware might be the NFL's most dominant defensive player.

That makes for what might be the league's most intriguing Week 1 individual matchup.

Cowboys opponents typically begin their offensive game planning by trying to figure out ways to block Ware. The Browns might try to let Thomas handle that herculean task by himself and slide protection toward Greg Ellis. If that's the case, Ware vs. Thomas will be a ton of fun to watch.

Ware and Thomas should be fun to watch. Let's hope we flip our OLBs around alot to max the pressure we bring. Also remember that if Anderson plays, that melon (head) isn't going to want any ground/dirt/grass introduction as a result of Ware and company.

We should be so lucky...

I doubt Ware will go one-on-one with any LT's this season in passing situations, unless there is an OC out there who really really hates his QB.

Probably the best LT in the game (if he improves even more on last year's play) vs. the best all-around OLB in the game.

FYI Thomas was credited with a single sack allowed all of last season. It was in the snow game against Buffalo, to Aaron Schobel, where he kinda slipped on the ground. If D-Ware gets a sack on him, I'd still consider that probably the first sack Thomas has given up in his career.

JT is an outstanding o-lineman but in the one nationally televised preseason game ( i forget who the browns played) he looked abysmal

You guys need to stop acting like Ware is all world, and that Thomas is a 2nd stringer.

If they let Ware go one on one with Thomas it will be a battle. Ware will beat Thomas at times, and Thomas will beat Ware at times. I think Ware will have the slight advantage simply because he's been in the league longer and has perfected his craft a little more.

But to think that Ware will simply dominate Thomas simply because it's one on one is foolish.

this will not be a cakewalk for dware.

i'd feel a lot more comfortable if spencer was able to play

I'd suggest that Stewart and Ware should be scheming on how to get Ware more favourable matchups elsewhere instead of constantly pouding him into Thomas - that is supposed to be one of the big advantages of the 3-4.

agreed, but if Ware can consistently get a good jump on the snap (which we all know he can) WITHOUT getting a bogus offsides call, it could be a long day for JT

Yep, I couldn't agree more. I think this is DWare's year to really shine bigtime, starting sunday in Cleveland... Thomas is good but DWare is a flatout beast...

U guys r funny. We have a qb playin his first game after getn his bell rung and a backup qb who sucked in college and u think they r goin to leave our best rusher 1 on 1. Can u imagine if fans coached the team.

I think Joe Thomas is a heck of a player but I would give Ware the edge in that matchup... I think Ware is even more powerful and might be even quicker coming into the 2008 season.

Thomas is going to get eaten alive if he has to take on Ware one-on-one

Thomas is quick, but he's not the strongest OT out there, and Ware is pure testosterone
