I definitely think we could have won the game. There are no guarantees in this league for one game nor for continued success.

Not playing that first half well indicates we have to learn how to win when we play a team capable of beating us. That's experience. Plus, we were unlucky in catching a hot QB. You saw what happens when a QB plays 'ordinary' the next week and, IMO, you can't give all the credit to Atlanta for that. You do see what a pass rush does for you though. IMO, that was our limiter and we paid the price for it.

Interestingly enough, it had been a long time since the Cowboys really played "their game".

I always thought it was because we had a comfortable lead on the conference and we were saving Elliott to be the workhorse.

And then the playoffs happened.

He's right. We failed to capitalize on a golden opportunity, which really hurts. Our slow start doomed us. The defense started our horribly and wasn't ready. The offense was bogged down with costly mistakes early. I think the layoff really hurt the team. They had essentially 3 weeks off which caused some rust. In retrospect it may have been better to play the Eagles game with the starters. There is no right or wrong answer. Both options entail risks, but we've tried it this way in 2007 and had the same result.

We also played our starters in 2014 in week 17, completely dominated a Washington team 44-7 with nothing to play for and still came out flat against the lions a week later.

We just aren't a well prepared team, especially after bye weeks or long time off.

That's true. It's a real shame too. One would think that's when we would be at our best.

Seriously.

I got over the loss after a few days but now it's starting to sting again. It's really a shame we can't be prepared after bye weeks. I just want tomorrow to be over and don't even want to be reminded of football for at least 2 months.

Cowboys really blew this one

Garrett will get it right in 2025 though!

Garrett did well last year for the most part. 13-3 and the #1 seed. That makes the GB loss that much more disappointing. But playoff success is how players and coaches are ultimately judged. It's painful knowing the Cowboys could have been in the game tomorrow.
