Just wanted to let you guys know I'm doing fine, I really appreciate the concern.

In answering a question about our vocal leadership, we really hold each other accountable. There is no one person who just stands out. Our coaches say to us pretty frequently "work hard enough to hold your teammates accountable".

When that way of thinking was brought to our attention we all started to police ourselves. To me that works better than having one guy to look up to. You always here about a guy being the heart and soul of a football team. The problem with that is when the heart and soul is no longer there or get hurts then, you have no leadership and the team goes astray. With accountability your pretty much your own boss but know if you step out of line not to be upset when correction comes.

Quick Release

With Coach Phillips having been around the league for a while teams have studied his style of defense. Even before he got the head job we all knew as players if he came to the Cowboys we were going to blitz a good bit of the time.

High risk equal high payoff and right now is as good a time if any to see what works and what doesn't (preseason). Looking at the some of the questions about the defense and our being out of position on quick throws, I have a twofold answer. One being scheme on the offensive and defensive part.

Teams are not just going to let you "T off" on their qb, teams are smarter than that. We're going to blitz that's a known fact, so teams are going to use different ways to protect the qb (I will talk about those ways tomorrow or later on tonight). Two being the weakness in the coverage which I don't really have to time to go into.

What teams do to slow down the pass rush.

1. Play action- this gets your eyes out of position for a split second.

2. Chip or max protect- keeping guys in to protect then getting them out late in the route is always a plus to keep a defense off balance. This does a couple of things one allows for deeper routes and two once the protection is handled it allows for guys to sit in soft spots in zone coverage(If you don't understand that concept let me know I will got into it).

3. Quick throws- a quick and easy option for the qb and most of the time it's a safe throw. The only thing you can do is tackle the catch (that's another issue).

As stated before the things you want to do during a blitz are simple

1. Sack the qb
2. Make him have to make a rushed decision.
3. Make him move his feet or feel the pressure.
