Like this guy a lot. He just feels like a guy who's going to develop into a really good player in a year or three.

I really like him as well.

IMO he's going to be solid from day one and will contribute more and more as the season goes along. Like you mentioned, I think he could be very good in a year or two.

He just has so much going for him athletically and mentally.

OXNARD, Calif. — Jason Garrett often tells his players to, “distinguish yourself with your play, not with what you say.”

Byron Jones fits that motto as well as anyone on the Cowboys roster. The first-round pick politely answers every question, but impressively avoids delivering any bulletin board material. Asked what his goal is for the upcoming season, Jones responds, “contribute and get better every day.”

That’s exactly what Garrett wants to hear.

Following his first practice in … [visit site to read more]

I'm really hoping Claiborne can step up and Carr can play like he did in the second half of last season so that we can play Jones at FS.

I'm torn on that. As much as I want a FS with some game, we may be better off leaving him at CB for now. It's a very realistic possibility that Car is gone after this season, if we place a priority on Hardy/Crawford. If Claiborne "steps up", we may not want to be saddled with an expensive contract. He could come back on a team friendly contract, or he could not. CB's are overpaid in FA every year.

It's a realistic possibility that both are gone after this year. I'd rather keep Byron at CB until we have more depth at the position and then transition him to FS rather than a year at FS, a year at CB, and so forth.

If Claiborne does step up and takes a team friendly contract(1-2 year prove it deal), Patmon becomes a reliable asset, I could see us still going DB early and placing Byron at FS full-time. That's the optimal situation for me anyway. If he proves to be a legitimate #1 this season, then you just keep him there.

I am still heartbroken that Todd Gurley is in St.Louis.
But I think our new CB can be a superstar.

I would love to draft a Byron Jones clone at 32 next spring.

Agreed. That has even been a pet peeve of mine. I want to start drafting 6-0 200 4.4 CBs. I've had enough of the skinny guys that can't be physical in coverage or against the run.

"one of the things we liked about him on draft day, and he’s really a dedicated, consciousness kid too."

How in the world did that get past the editor?

Or maybe Machota actually meant that Dallas likes Byron because he is both dedicated and awake.

Hmmmmmm.

Every single video I've seen of him in camp makes him look immediately like our best defensive back. Bizarre combination of athleticism, intelligence and work ethic.

I just hope he doesn't turn out to be another Roy Williams or Terrence Newman.

Lol is it really? Well I guess the playbook is on it.

“Well, we got these nice iPads,” the defensive back out of UConn explained. “Along with the nice iPads you get a little notice that says if you lose this iPad, your maximum fine is $11,000. That’s a good welcome [moment]. If it’s not charged it’s $2,100. If you leave it in your car it $2,100.
