Interesting.. Get a deal done with Dez and franchise Murray. I like it.

Yep. I didn't even think about franchise tag. That sounds good to me. I don't know if we could rely on Randle to be the guy next season. I also don't believe in giving a fragile RB like Murray a long term deal. A one year franchise tag is perfect.

The franchise tag makes no sense on Murray at 9 million.

Medically speaking Lee's knees should be stronger now. Both major surgeries were on different ones. But he's had other issues besides the knees.

In that case, they should do surgery on every bone in Lee's body. And then maybe cut him open and do it again.

Franchise Murray? Not for that at all. Add the $9M into the 4/16 plan so we can have more cash for the defense. We need all the upgrades we can get on that side of the ball.

I want Murray, but I dont see them using the tag...anyone who says they will doesnt know what they are talking about. The franchise tags are based on what the cap for the year will be set at and that hasnt been officially announced yet. Its projected to be around $142 million....this would make the running back franchise tag number $10.853 million for 1 year.

6-6.5 million a year for 3-4 years with a high guarantee has been the way to go...if you want to keep him AND he wants to stay.

Give Murray what Marshawn Lynch is getting- I think its about 5.5 a year? 4/24 sounds about right, although i could do fine withiut him.

Honestly the FA RB market is goig to get flooded and this is a really good draft for running backs. I think Murray sees whats out there andthen comes back cheaper than most expect.

It's difficult (at best) to predict with any accuracy as to what will happen with DeMarco. Franchising him would more than likely exceed what the FO is willing to part with, imho. Stephen mentioned the possibility of perhaps restructuring some contracts to bring DM back but it's anyone's guess if that's the most practical route to satisfy this team's needs. I'm sure it'll be the subject of many intense discussions within the ranks of the FO in the near future, though. We'll see in due time. It promises to be an extremely important decision, in any event.

It makes perfect sense. It's one year, who cares about the #?

I care about the cap and all the contracts. I'm concerned enough I'm not certain I pay Murray 4M/year with a lot of guaranteed money. There are alternatives. I don't value RB as much as I do needs on the defense. You need someone who can run tough between the tackles so its not a nobrainer. It's just a compromise to get better on defense by spending less at RB.

Yup, not a bad strategy at all. Yes, they'll be paying Murray top dollar, but the short term nature of the tag makes it extremely low risk. Would not surprise me one bit. In fact, this is such a compelling idea, I'm moving my projection that Murray stays from 85% to 99.9%.

No way they're just letting this guy walk away from the team. Where's the risk in paying this guy top five money for one year? He was a top ONE running back this year!

Question: Bob, loved your SOD#3 this morning and it touched on 2 questions I’ve been wondering about (I’ll split them up). On the topic of Lee and Mclain’s injury concerns, I guess I’m looking at it a little optimistically. How much credence do you give to reports of Lee finally repairing a torn ACL that he’s been playing on since college and do you think a full offseason can better prepare RoMac for the beatings a body takes during season? He did kind of come off the couch to play this year

Bob Sturm: Well, thank you very much. I am pretty happy with the offseason plan so now I just need to execute it. As for Sean Lee’s health, I would like to believe that he has had a chance to clean things up as well as possible. Unfortunately, the human body can only take so much wear and tear, and it is highly possible that those knees were not made for what he asks them to do on Sunday. I think we should all be optimistic about his future, but realistic about what we have already seen and set our expectations accordingly. As for McClain, his ability to take part in a full offseason should be good for him. I think that we can bet on his health being better in year 2.

Question: Jones said he wanted to keep both Murray and Dez. What do you expect to happen?

Bob Sturm: Well, I don’t have any question that Dez Bryant will be signed. Part of me wonders if there is some behind the scenes friction that we are unaware of, but if that is just paranoia, then I think a 6 year deal will be done with him before too long. As for DeMarco, I think there is a chance he gets franchised. But, the odds of a long-term deal seems highly unlikely. I wonder about a 4/$24 deal where – $18 is guaranteed. Who would say no to that? It is less money, but more guaranteed money. There might be something there and at $6m per, I think it is fair in each direction.

Question: If not Demarco, how does Mark Ingram sound as a replacement? Or would you use a top 100 pick?

Bob Sturm: I would like to break down some Ingram tape before signing off on that, but I have heard many people mention his name as an option. Personally, I think it is quite advantageous to see that the Cowboys needs match up perfectly with the depth in this draft. Edge rusher and RB. There are many RBs that I like in the Top 100.

I think Sturm is right in the ballpark on his numbers for a potential long-term deal, 4 years/$24 million with $18 guaranteed. The guarantee will definitely be hovering around that $20 million mark.

Yep, you could go back to where we've been for almost 20 years. NO FREEKIN thank you...Why go back to what has failed miserable here in Dallas since ES left.

Ur right I forgot about the lack of RB depth in the draft and FA... let's over pay for a 27 year old with injury issues... let's forget the fact that RBs who get as many carriers as he did rarely produce well again... lets over pay another aging-fumbling-beat up vet for nostalgia...

The tag makes perfect sense as you can "rent" Demarco for a year. ;)

Anyone real what the " tag price" was for Spencer ? Murray delivers a lot more than Spencer, and I think thats one $$$ calculation the Boys will look at in making a final decision.

The exclusive franchise tag is not based on a percentage of the cap.

The non-exclusive tag is based on a percentage of the cap.

Fragile? I know he has been bitten by injury bug in the past but guys toting the ball over 400 times and playing all 16 I would hardly call fragile.
