Colombo doesn't owe the Cowboys

I've heard some rumblings that OT Marc Colombo should give the Cowboys a discount because they helped him salvage his career.
Sorry, but I strongly disagree.

Colombo has already more than repaid the Cowboys by starting 16 games at right tackle last season. They benefited greatly from the risk they took on him.

Perhaps for the only time in his career, Colombo has the opportunity to test the market as a valuable commodity. He'd be a fool not to see what kind of cash he could make, especially considering all the salary-cap room out there. This is a league where contracts aren't guaranteed and careers can end any time, so you can't blame Colombo for wanting to cash in while he can.

The Cowboys will probably be able to re-sign Colombo if they make a competitive offer. It's his agent's job to make sure there's a lot of competition for Colombo's services.

In the brutal reality of the NFL, this article is brutally true.

These guys recieve hundreds of e-mails from idiot fans. I'm sure he's received his fair share of, "how dare Colombo ask for too much money -- he owes us for giving him a chance."

Sure has been a few on this board who said he did. It could be argued that he owed BP something- since he was the one that gave him the chance when no one else would. But the Cowboys - now- nope.

I do. Lots of Cowboy fans have implied he should give us a discount.

I personally think he should grab the first 3-5 offers he can get; and his agent should present the highest one to the Cowboys, and see if we'll bite. I don't mind paying this dude $3-5 million a year; he was outstanding last year, and with some of the teams we played - it was no fluke, because Rivera was torched last year.

Pay the man.

If the Cowboys offer was in the same ballpark then I would expect him to pay them back by staying with the team that gave him a chance while still coming back from injury.(And I'm sure thats what he would do)

Now if he gets a way better offer from some other team, I can't blame him and neither will the Cowboys I suspect.

Fabini didn't play at all last year..
He played quite a bit in preseason and looked as good as Colombo. He played sparingly throughout the year and looked fine. I believe there was one game where he played an entire quarter or half.

Dude BP was on the verge of cutting Fabini during TC cause his performance was so bad.. Trust me, he's not the answer. He may not make the team this year..

i thought that Fabini played poorly for a time. It was pretty much that the line looked bad and he was lumped in with them. When taking a closer look the line it was apparent that Fabini was not the one missing his blocks or assignments.

At the same token he wasnt blowing people up. He is superb for the role we had him last year, backing up both tackle spots, but it wouldnt be the end of the world of he had to start.

On the verge of being cut? Link? Parcells never indicated such. In fact, he said quite the opposite.

Fabini was coming back from an injury, it took him a while to round back into shape. He played well once preseason came along.

Right. He's not on his way to Hawaii any time soon, but he could probably turn in as solid a performance as Colombo did last season.

Jason Fabini did play this past season, and he was fine. Not only was he the third tackle for practically every single game, he actually came into the game a few times. On one occassion, Colombo was injured and set out a series. Fabini came in, and there was absolutely no fall off.

I have no idea how that would translate over a full year, and I suspect Fabini wasn't starting for a reason, but I don't think he's finished yet either. In fact, he's better than some of the names I've read thrown around.
