Phillips' first challenge: Keep Jerry in line
This is a serious football post, so those of you struggling in the sense-of-humor department can breathe easy.
The great Jean-Jacques Taylor, who somehow survived a seven-game hockey series, writes that Wade Phillips' first major challenge as the Cowboys coach is to keep Jerry in line on draft day. Jeff Ireland, who heads the scouting department, should double-team Jerry with Phillips this weekend.
Jacques believes that keeping Jerry from going crazy in the draft was the best thing Bill Parcells did around these parts. I see where Jacques is coming from, but I'll respectfully disagree. I'll forever be grateful to the Tuna for introducing terms such as "J.A.G." and phrases such as, "You are what you are" to the local lexicon.
Nevertheless, I agree that a willingness to speak their mind to Jerry is a must this weekend for Phillips and Ireland. Jerry sure seems to be in the mood for wheelin' and dealin', based on his comments this week.
That's fine -- I won't whip you with the Curse of 22 Theory, because this is a serious football post -- as long as they're not just moving around to prevent boredom in the board room.
