The Cowboys are still talking with the agent for starting right tackle Marc Colombo.

From my understanding, Colombo wants a long-term deal but Dallas is offering a two or three-year contract.
Money is also a factor and Colombo is looking at a Leonard Davis type money but won't get it from the Cowboys or on the open market.

Dallas values Colombo but can't wait forever on him to make a decision.

Kenyon Coleman has left the Cowboys for the New York Jets. The New York Daily News reports Coleman signed a five-year deal worth $20.5 million with $6 million guaranteed.
That was too rich for the Cowboys for a backup defensive lineman.

No thanks. Sign an incentive based contract, and maybe I'd go to 3/4 of the contract LD signed, but not without that.

Colombo's agent needs to come back down to reality. A knee injury that caused a player to miss basically 2 yrs, and he is 1 year back into it and he wants that type of money. I can't see any team (besides the Skins who can't afford that type of money right now) stepping up and signing him to anything close to that deal.

I really DOUBT that Colombo is trying for Davis type money- unless his agent really is stupid. Especially after what Stinchcomb and Pettigout signed for.

If he signs the 2-3 yr contract and proves he deserves a long term deal he'll get it.

Why do I seriously doubt that blurb about Davis' type money? Perhaps because if he was Denver or the Jets might have reported it.

Colombo's problem is that he will be 30 if he takes that deal before he can get another. I think the smartest thing he can do is take the deal and make it plain to JJ that he wants it extended if he stays healthy and improves his performance. JJ will honor a handshake deal like that.

Put in a clause that extends the contract to 6 years if he plays in 80% of the offensive plays the next 2 years. I'm not sure if that is too common, but it would make sense to me.

Edit: Well if he sticks 60% of those plays thens it's a pretty bad deal...some I guess performance needs to be added in there as well! :)

Petitgout's deal is slightly better than Stinchcombs. Stinchcomb's was 2yrs 7m total. Petitgout's is 3 yr, 15m.

So maybe Colombo's can fall somewhere in the middle.

Where do these reporters get their stuff, this Columbo stuff have been floating around for days now on the contract and we all know that coleman already signed,,,,, maybe I should be a reporter.... Listen

Word around town is that Dallas might be thinking of givng Columbo a 3 year deal instead of 2, because word around vegas is that Jerry Jones won a little extra money in vegas...

From reports around town is that Kenya Coleman is happy with his new deal...

Also from sources around the league says that if, dallas doesn't resign Columbo, they might draft an OL in the draft...

Sources tell me that Wade Phillips has decided to keep the 3-4 defense around another year..

Also from an unnamed source, Jerry jones is really serious putting Henry at Free Safety and might look to draft a CB in round 1-6 citing a 7th round CB might not make team

Source, Qlaz and other inside sources

I would go back to Colombo and match the deal Petitgout just got but only give him 48 hours to take it or I'd pull it off the table. That is where his market value is and its about time for him to realize that!!

Pretty much how I see it as well. I have no issue with paying out big money for players who have earned it over a period of time. With Colombo he has played 1 season and did a decent job but that in my mind does not justify throwing a long-term contract his way. I'd rather see him get a 3 year deal with an option that after 2 where he could renegotiate the contract at that time

Petitgout's rep (with the fans and media) here in NY is overblown. The Giants knew exactly what they were doing when they released him. The guy is injury prone and penalty prone. Like a lot of other guys, a guy with talent that just can't put the puzzle together. The Bucs took a real chance with him giving him a 3 year $15M deal. I would have offered him the same as Columbo and Stinchcombs. 2 years $7M nothing more. I would offer Columbo more as he at least has a good year under his belt last year, Petitgout didn't.

So give him a 6 year $21M contract with $7M guaranteed. You get stuck with him for two years at $3.5M a year. If he isn't cutting it, you cut him at no cost. :) If he pans out, $3.5M a year is a great deal for a RT. :D

Or sign a long term deal with incentives, which is voidable after 4 years, structured so a salary cap hit is minimal. However that and if it can be done.
