IRVING -- This is the week Tony Romo is expected to return to action for the first time since fracturing his left collarbone in Week 2.
But the Cowboys quarterback wasn't spotted on the field Wednesday during the portion of practice that was open to the media.
Romo, who is eligible to play for the first time since the injury, has typically skipped the first practice of the week -- adhering to a routine that started in September 2014.
"He'll go through meetings and walk-through and we're going to put him on a similar schedule that he was on last year with his practice days, more walk-through on Wednesday, more practice Thursday and Friday," Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said Monday. "We'll just get into that mode and see how he handles it day-by-day. It's like any player coming back from injury and take it day by day and see how they handle the work."
Romo wasn't the only player who wasn't seen. Receivers Dez Bryant (knee/foot/ankle) and Brice Butler (hamstring) also were missing along with defensive end Ryan Russell (abdomen) and cornerback Morris Claiborne (hamstring).
Meanwhile, safety Barry Church, who continues to be bothered by an ankle injury suffered last month, worked on the side.
