Dallas Cowboys coaches met with veteran quarterback Austin Davis on Wednesday morning and he remained at The Star in Frisco during the club's annual kickoff luncheon at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
The two sides talked about a deal but have yet to come to an agreement. Davis was released Monday by Cleveland. He went 3-7 in 10 starts over the last two seasons for the Browns and Rams.
The Cowboys wanted to sign Davis so he could be available for Thursday's preseason game, even though he'd be unlikely to play. Davis wants assurances that he'll be around longer than a few days.
The Cowboys want Davis to stick around longer. They view him as a possible option to serve as Prescott's backup while Romo is out, a source said, rather than just an extra body to get through the final preseason game.
