I would really prefer to see Williams in the backfield, esp with the concussion talk with with Randle. Though Randle is obv improved, he could wait and compete in TC next year being a draft pick.

How about if they had just kept him on the PUP and he could return after 6 weeks?

My feeling is that if they put him on PUP, he could start to practice after 6 weeks ? Meaning he might play by week 8 or 9 depending how he came back after such a long layoff. By keeping him on the roster, he gets to start practicing now - maybe play by week 6 or 7, again depending on how he progresses. Is it worth saving that roster spot to have him paly 2 games earlier ? Who knows at this stage.

What's the difference between that and what they put Lawrence on that has him out 10 weeks, and why didn't they just PUP Lawrence? 10 games is a long time.

Anything not bad news about Spencer is good news. We stay close or better then close with Lawrence and Spencer.

A player can't be on the PUP unless he was on it when training camp started. Once a player has taken 1 practice rep in TC, which Lawrence did, then he can't be on the PUP.

Lawrence is on IR-designated-for-return. One player per season can be put on IR-return at any time.

What would be the point of cutting him vs PUP?

They did the right thing taking him off preseason PUP and letting him practice. If he does well we get him back sooner. If he doesn't do well then you'll know sooner and can I him more quickly. Either way you get your data more quickly.

I think Spencer plays by next week or by the Saints game. This was the right decision
