[SIZE=+2]Dallas Cowboys training camp report (8/7)

Observation deck
• Thursday's practice dealt primarily with Saturday's game, going over down-and-distance situations and substitute packages. The players will have a walkthrough today before leaving for San Diego.
• How relaxing was the workout? Several players wore sunglasses inside their helmets.
• A blimp, sponsored by Outback Steakhouse, hovered over the practice field. No truth to the rumor that members of the Chargers' coaching staff was on board taping practice. Had Bill Parcells been the coach, he would have ordered the airspace closed above the fields.
• Agent Drew Rosenhaus, who represents Terrell Owens, Zach Thomas and Marion Barber, attended Thursday's practice. He said he has visited about 10 camps so far and has another 10 left to go.
• The Cowboys' first dime defense package looked like this – Greg Ellis, Jay Ratliff, Chris Canty, DeMarcus Ware, Kevin Burnett, Anthony Henry, Mike Jenkins, Alan Ball, Adam Jones, Ken Hamlin and Courtney Brown.
• Texas A&M Commerce athletic director Carlton Cooper, the former senior associate athletic director at SMU, attended Thursday's practice.

Two-minute drill: DB coach Dave Campo, 'Hard Knocks' superstar
What'd you think of the show's opener?
First of all, I didn't see it all. We were meeting, and the first thing I saw when I turned the TV on was my pants going down. So that was all I saw.
Unfortunately, people did see it all when it comes to that.
I guess so. My wife called me and said, "I heard." She didn't see the show. She said, "What the heck is going on out there?" I said, "Hey, we're having fun."
Haven't you taken any steps or precautions to make sure that if Pacman gets you again it won't be quite as revealing?
Two things have happened. Number one, Wade said in the meeting – you saw it on the show – there's a rule against it now. Number two, I don't ever let him stand behind me.
Wade Phillips mentioned yesterday that you are a repeat superstar of the show. One of the highlights of the previous Cowboys edition was a trip to Sea World. You're going to San Diego this weekend. Are you packing a wet suit?
No, no, no, no. I'm not going anywhere near the water. Any resemblance to what we're doing this year to what happened after we did it the last time is purely coincidental.
There is one thing that viewers might be puzzled by. Your hair has turned blonder since you were last on the show. How did that happen?
Well, you've got to stay young in this business. You know what I mean. People judge you by how much energy you have, so I want to make sure it looks like I have good energy.

Wide receivers watch
The Cowboys want to take a long look at some of their younger receivers – Sam Hurd, Miles Austin, Danny Amendola, Isaiah Stanback and a few others – during Saturday's preseason opener at San Diego.
Owner Jerry Jones said he's excited to see what the young receivers will do in the game. Amendola and Stanback are two receivers who could be fighting for a roster spot. Each also will probably participate on the return units.
Calvin Watkins
Taking the train to work
With such a short trip to San Diego, the Cowboys will be taking a chartered Amtrak train south to their preseason opener.
Two of the train cars taking the team down are Scottish Thistles, which are equipped with a rear observation deck, full salon and formal dining room.
"I hadn't done much train in my lifetime, and we had that done before Hard Knocks," owner and general manager Jerry Jones said. "We just wanted to do it. You guys are going to like some of those cars. I've seen pictures of them and seen how it is, and we want to ham it up."
The trip is expected to last four hours.
