Remember the Titans is one of my favorite movies (and my wife's too). I watch it about once a year or so. Really great movie.

"You need a water break? Water is for cowards. Water makes you weak. Water is for washing blood off my uniform, and you don't get no blood on my uniform. Boy you must be outside your mind."

"We are going to do up-downs until Blue is no longer tired and thirsty."

Man that movie gets me every time I watch it! Probably in my top 5-10 movies of all time!

Admire him greatly as an actor but just gotta add, I'd never have recognized him on the street looking like that.

One of the best actors ever! He's definitely one of my all-time favorites. Even better, he loves the Dallas Cowboys. Good stuff.

He's the same in every movie, IMO.

Actor Denzel Washington chats with quarterback Tony Romo and head coach Jason Garrett before practice at training camp on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2015, in Oxnard, Calif. (Smiley N. Pool/The Dallas Morning News)

OXNARD, Calif. — Academy Award-winning actor Denzel Washington was at Cowboys practice Saturday.

The lifelong Cowboys fan made the visit with his son, John David Washington, who stars in the HBO series “Ballers.”

“First of all, I’ve been a Cowboy fan my whole life,” Washington said. “I’m talking about Duane Thomas. I’m talking about Walt Garrison, Calvin Hill, Tony Dorsett. So I’ve been a fan for a long time. Just to be out here is just fun for me.”

Before making his way onto the field, Washington spoke with some of the players in the locker room. He then talked to the team on the field before practice and sat on the sidelines for about half of the session before heading to the exit.

“I’m just happy I get to meet Tony Romo and them guys,” he said. “This is a dream for me. I got to live out my dream through my son. Days like today are just fun days for me.”

Good for him. Not being recognized is a blessing at times for a guy his stature.

He's one of my all time favorite actors, up there with Robert DeNiro.

I totally agree -- who could blame anyone in his position for wanting a little privacy? It's a good way to keep an admiring public from hounding him anywhere and everywhere he goes. Those two are among my favorites also.

Saying that 'it's like a dream for him' sounds like something I'd be likely to say myself. Sounds like he's pretty well grounded, which is unusual for someone with his standing as an actor. Too many of them make it a habit to project an overblown image of themselves.

I love Denzel as an actor, my only question is if going to see a Cowboys training camp was always a dream for him, why did it take someone of his wealth and connections this long to actually realize it?

I always felt Denzel Washington was a little hit and miss, but he was fantastic in Flight a couple years ago. Can't forget about Philadelphia either, though that was more of a Tom Hanks show.

Being rich and famous doesn't necessarily mean that someone can't idolize others that have achieved respect in their professions. Lots of actors, both males and females, profess great admiration for sports teams and their athletes. The Cowboys are surely high among the most admired (or hated) teams and its players in sports. Who's to say he hasn't felt that way for decades?

I think you completely missed my point. He said he has been a fan all of his life, I couldn't imagine that in the past 20 years as a top rated actor he couldn't find the time, money, and/or made the connection to get an up close in-person experience at a Dallas cowboys training camp practice. My point was that I thought it was strange that it took this long for him to realize a dream that would seem it could have realized much sooner if he wanted. That's all I am saying.

I'm not privy to being familiar with his innermost thoughts any more than you are. I don't think it matters when he said what he did and see no reason to question his motives. If he said it's like a dream for him, that's something that someone of his stature normally might not say. I would think it's a sign that he's grounded, not phony.
