Dallas Cowboys beat writer Brandon George hosted a chat Tuesday to talk all things football. Here are some of the highlights:
Question: Is Iowa defensive tackle Carl Davis worth trading up for?
George: I don't think so. He's said to be more of a one-technique DT, and that's not the big-money DT spot in the Cowboys' Tampa 2 scheme. I can't see the Cowboys drafting a player in the first round who wouldn't be a 3-technique DT.
Question: If Dallas drafts a CB...would that be viewed as a lesser selection as opposed to a DE which seems like a real need?
George: The Cowboys need a cornerback. I believe no matter what player they take with their first-round pick, it should be to get the best player available. If that's a CB, so be it. They need a CB, they certainly need DL help, too. Just stick with best player available.
Question: Any insights as of yet on the Cowboys big board? Who do you think they are picking at 27? Also if the value isn't there what are the possibilities of trading down? Thanks!
George: Still too early ... but Cowboys plan to go defensive heavy. And also plan to select a RB at some point. I could see them trading down, especially if they sign Greg Hardy in free agency.
Question: What round do you think CB Byron Jones will be picked. I fell that the Cowboys should draft two CBs, and he should be one of them.
George: Heard that Jones is more of a mid-round draft pick. He certainly helped himself at the Combine with that long jump. Cowboys should draft at least one CB, if not two, in upcoming draft. Especially if they decide to part ways with Brandon Carr.
Question: If Shaq Thompson is around at pick 27, do you see the Cowboys grabbing him? Is he a fit on the strong side?
George: The Cowboys aren't likely to draft a LB who would be a fit on the strong-side in the first round. The big-money LB spot is the Cowboys' scheme is weak-side LB. Don't see them grabbing a LB in the first round.
