Dallas Cowboys beat writer Brandon George hosted a chat Tuesday to talk all things football. Here are some of the highlights:

Question: Is Iowa defensive tackle Carl Davis worth trading up for?

George: I don't think so. He's said to be more of a one-technique DT, and that's not the big-money DT spot in the Cowboys' Tampa 2 scheme. I can't see the Cowboys drafting a player in the first round who wouldn't be a 3-technique DT.

Question: If Dallas drafts a CB...would that be viewed as a lesser selection as opposed to a DE which seems like a real need?

George: The Cowboys need a cornerback. I believe no matter what player they take with their first-round pick, it should be to get the best player available. If that's a CB, so be it. They need a CB, they certainly need DL help, too. Just stick with best player available.

Question: Any insights as of yet on the Cowboys big board? Who do you think they are picking at 27? Also if the value isn't there what are the possibilities of trading down? Thanks!

George: Still too early ... but Cowboys plan to go defensive heavy. And also plan to select a RB at some point. I could see them trading down, especially if they sign Greg Hardy in free agency.

Question: What round do you think CB Byron Jones will be picked. I fell that the Cowboys should draft two CBs, and he should be one of them.

George: Heard that Jones is more of a mid-round draft pick. He certainly helped himself at the Combine with that long jump. Cowboys should draft at least one CB, if not two, in upcoming draft. Especially if they decide to part ways with Brandon Carr.

Question: If Shaq Thompson is around at pick 27, do you see the Cowboys grabbing him? Is he a fit on the strong side?

George: The Cowboys aren't likely to draft a LB who would be a fit on the strong-side in the first round. The big-money LB spot is the Cowboys' scheme is weak-side LB. Don't see them grabbing a LB in the first round.

I have a BIG fan of Gordon.

Love this quote about Gordon from Sturm:

"Gordon shows the turbo boost that is not human. He does this routinely and it is that home run ability where he can simply out-run your defenders that makes him a 1st round talent".

Like that turbo boost. Haven't seen that since the days of Dorsett .... Once he cleared the LB's he was gone... Only exception I can remember is Darrell Green catching him..

If our highest rated back is on the board when we pick, we take him.

I think we can and will be fine with our RB but "fine" is not good enough---I want a game changer especially with how we ran our offense last season. When we try to get cute with our RB position; it backfires. We turned down the best back before(Steven Jackson) and we drafted a part time player (Felix); both of these strategies backfired. Demarco Murray fell in the draft due to injury concerns so you can say that backfired as well since we did not have a true reliable back until this past season.

The ultimate turbo boost coming out of college was that of Chris Johnson.
His 1st 2-3 years, he was surreal in how fast he could kick in that turbo. A total blur...and the rare occasion that 4.24 forty would translate into real game speed in pads.
Total freak in that regard.

Always, always, always take the best player on the board in the first two rounds.

You can never have enough great players.

Drafting for need leaves you with Kavika Pittman, Shante Carver, Ebennezar Ekuban, and Felix Jones.

Zack Martin wasn't the biggest need last year. How did that turn out?

Many think Dallas will trade out of the first round because they don't have a third round pick.

That will still land RB.

Refresh my memory please. Why don't we have a third round pick? Is that the Demarcus lawerence trade?

Is it me, or is Jones the Younger morphing into a Bill Plympton cartoon?

Agree. Shame he has ended the way things played out.

Correct, we used our 3rd round pick last year to move up and draft Lawrence. This year we do have a 3rd, however.

Where at? Chained up in your basement? :D

I'm a big fan of Gordon's too. The guy has a real burst and carries his pads very, very well. Run instincts off the charts.

Gordon is a very close 1B to Gurley's 1A.

I'm sorry, that was poorly written. I meant they don't have a player from the third round last year, and they might trade back to get another pick. That's been mentioned by Todd Archer and others.

I think Gurley might be better initially, however, I wonder if Gordon will have a better career.
