The Cowboys will be facing two familiar foes Sunday -- the Green Bay Packers and defensive coordinator Dom Capers. The Cowboys have had better luck against the Packers than they've had against Capers.
Since Jerry Jones bought the Cowboys in 1989, Dallas has posted an 11-4 record against the Packers, including three consecutive playoff victories from 1993 to '95.
Capers has been in the NFL since 1986 and the Packers are his eighth employer. He's a defensive whiz who specializes in the 3-4 scheme. Capers has coached against the Cowboys in six of his previous seven stops, missing out only at New England in 2008.
In his capacities as defensive backfield coach (New Orleans), defensive coordinator (Pittsburgh, Jacksonville, Miami) and head coach (Carolina, Houston), Capers has compiled a 6-3 record against the Cowboys.
His Saints shut the Cowboys out, 28-0, in the 1989 season opener, also Troy Aikman's NFL debut. In 1997 at Carolina, the Panthers held the Cowboys to nine first downs and sacked Aikman four times in a 26-17 victory. And Capers orchestrated the stunning 19-10 upset of the Cowboys in the 2002 season opener in the NFL debut of the Houston Texans.
